Fascinating journey to see unfold, from the early days of Meet the Feebles to current productions. Loved hearing the stories about Tanya and Richard and Weta Workshop because it helps you realize that creativity needs determination and drive to florish, and to gain recognition as a business. Our guide was great. Knowledgeable, energetic, entertaining annecdotes. Displays were incredible. What an opportunity to see so many iconic costumes and props up close. For someone like me, who worked in theatre (costumes) for many years, I found the tour was too short. I would have liked to spend more time scrutinizing the details of the costumes and props. I've also been a huge LOTR fan since 1977 (first time I read the book) and to be in a room filled with LOTR items was overwhelming. It was hard to focus on what our guide was saying when my attention was constantly being pulled around the room as one thing after another grabbed my eye.
Kia ora, Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed learning about the journey of Wētā Workshop, from the early days of *Meet the Feebles* through to our more recent work. Tanya and Richard's story is certainly one of passion, creativity, and perseverance, and it's wonderful to know that this resonated with you. It's also fantastic to hear that your guide's knowledge, energy, and entertaining anecdotes helped bring the experience to life. As someone with a background in theatre costume work, we're especially pleased that you appreciated the craftsmanship and detail that goes into our costumes and props. We completely understand your wish to spend more time admiring the pieces up close, particularly as a long-time Lord of the Rings fan. There is certainly a lot to take in, and we're glad that being surrounded by so many iconic items was such a memorable experience, even if it made it difficult to know where to look next! Thank you again for sharing your experience with us. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for another visit in the future. Ngā mihi, Wētā Workshop Reservations
I visited this attraction with the intention of seeing and photographing everything related to the movies THE LORD OF THE RINGS, but it is not that type of experience, as they do not allow any photography during the tour, nor is it a set tour, it is a tour explaining how the molds and props for the movies are created, AND THEY DO NOT ALLOW TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS OF ANY COSTUME, so I found it very boring.
Kia ora, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. Our tour is designed to showcase the creative processes behind filmmaking, including practical effects, props, creatures, and world-building techniques, rather than as an exhibition from a specific film franchise. However, we appreciate your disappointment and passing on this feedback. We also appreciate that our no-photography policy during the guided tour may have been disappointing. These restrictions are in place due to copyright restrictions with the pieces on display, meaning we can't have them openly photographed. We value your feedback, as it helps us better understand our visitors' expectations and continue improving how we communicate the nature of our experiences. Ngā mihi, Wētā Workshop Reservations
If your a fan of lotr, or not; tour is informative and interesting. Amazing props from lots of different movies, get to handle some and take photos.

Kia ora, Thank you for your lovely review. We’re so glad to hear you had a great experience and that your guide helped make the tour enjoyable and informative. Ngā mihi nui, Wētā Workshop Reservations Team
To be honest, I was disappointed. This is a very controlled tour that actually doesn't show you that much as you're lead through one room after another with promo material, very controlled video content and two windows that look onto the workshop (with a limited view). There is a great presentation on make up using Jed Brophy as an example (you legend!), but again, once he is all made up, the resulting video doesn't actually give you a good look at the fully realised make up effects. There is a wonderful room full of LOTR props but you cannot take pictures due to copyright - this seemed weird, as it's not as though you can't see the props in the movies! A very different experience to Hobbiton which really invites you to step in the world and interact with it. There is a room about sculpting that invites attendees to sculpt with tinfoil, a 'hands on' experience yes, but it felt like cheap filler on the tour. If it weren't that this is the only place you can see the props up close, I wouldn't recommend.
Kia ora, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear the tour did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your comments around the tour format, hands on elements, and workshop viewing opportunities, as well as your thoughts on the photography restrictions in some areas. We understand this can feel disappointing when there are so many exciting pieces guests would love to capture and revisit after their tour. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed the makeup presentation and the chance to see some of the props up close. Ngā mihi, Wētā Workshop Reservations Team

We had such a wonderful time. It was so interesting to learn about the behind the scenes and processes, and see some of the props and prosthetics made for some of our favourite films. Our guide was really lovely and was especially amazing with our baby who squealed (happily, she’s a fan) throughout. Definitely a must do when in Wellington.

Visit was ok, a little of trivial benign info and some dude rumbling about recycling and best place to go through trash. Auckland tour visit was far more interesting.
Kia ora, Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear the experience didn’t fully meet your expectations. We aim to strike a balance between entertaining storytelling and meaningful insight into the creative process, so it’s helpful to hear when that doesn’t quite land. We’re glad you enjoyed your visit in Auckland, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts so we can continue to improve. Ngā mihi nui, Wētā Workshop Reservations Team
