Jason worked had to find great photo opportunities and views of the local birds. Very knowledgeable and easy to chat with. Saw spider and howler monkeys, an anteater, many reptiles, and 30+ species of birds. Loved it. Checked a few off the bucket list.
This was an excellent tour. Jeisson is clearly very knowledgeable and experienced about birds of all types. We got to see many unique birds including motmot, scarlett macaws, hummingbirds etc with him. He knows all the spots!
We had a wonderful time with our guide, Jeison, a true bird expert who pointed us to numerous birds that we would have missed if we had been on our own. Some birds were only heard because they were high in the canopy so he showed us what they would look like; some birds would be found on the ground, and we got to search for (and find!) those. We came across well over 20 kinds of birds based on my notes. Our favorite was a collared forest falcon with its iguana breakfast high up on a tree, which we got to see clearly through Jeison's scope. I definitely recommend not going on your own, because you would miss out on too many gems. Although we chose this birding tour for our love of feathered friends, we were interested in other aspects too, so Jeison happily shared his vast knowledge of the climate and ecosystem, the difference between primary and secondary forests, how to tell the difference between parasitic trees and vine trees, etc. He also pointed us to other living creatures such as frogs and insects along with cool facts. Memorably, he introduced us to what looked like rain but was in fact coming from cicadas! Nature is wild. This was the first tour we booked in Costa Rica, and it was a great introduction to the rich biodiversity of the country. When you book this tour, note that this only covers the guide part (which was over 3 hours); you'll still need to get entry tickets through the official SINAC website.
For the hardcore birders out there, I’m a somewhat serious bird lister and Jeison was awesome. It would have been brutal trying to bird Carara without him. For example, we had a mixed species flock where I got really quick but good views of Slaty Antwren, Dot-winged Antwren, and Ochre-crowned Greenlet. If I didn’t have Jeison I probably would have only seen one. Carara is his “home” park, and he knows it very very well. Showed me the area where Tropical Royal Flycatchers are nesting, providing us with terrific views. Knew all the Orange-collared Manakin Lek sights, which gave me awesome photo opportunities for the males. He also knew all the calls - and I probably wouldn’t have gotten Golden-napped woodpecker as a heard-only bird without him (the bird only called once). We finished at ~80 species for the morning at the main part of Carara and over 40 in the afternoon at the other area (you can organize a full-day tour with him if you wish). If you are trying to sweep the Pacific coast endemics, I would definitely recommend Jeison!
We had the best experience together with Enrique for about 4 hours on our Private Tour. We saw so many different birds as well as the Black frogs and mating of Trogonfugle and Scarlet Marcau. So we were just so lucky, and we thank Enrique for a fastantic day
We had a really good time birding with Yostin, what a great guy! He was very knowledgeable of both sounds and sightings, giving us an opportunity to observe species we would have never identified ourselves. We saw a great variety of birds and he always tried his best to accommodate fo us to see, hear and photograph all species as well as possible. He also explained best ways to identify each species, and also the overall ecology of the area. Thanks again Yostin, was definitely one of our all-time birding highlights!
My husband had one objective for our day in Carara: See as many birds as possible. Thanks to Jeison's PhD-level knowledge and expertise, we were able to do just that. We also saw frogs, ants, lizards and bats, but Jeison and his bird identification skills were the star of the show.
The tour was amazing. Our guide (Jason) had very sharp eyes and found wildlife i never would have found on my own. Very knowledgeable and extremely kind. He let us use his wifi to get back to our hotel. Just a heads up, the park center wifi was useless lol.
We have been with Yostin 4 hours in the park on animal watching. Yostin was great. He has a lot of knowledge, not only about birds but also other animals and plants, of nature in general. We learned a lot 👌and can highly recommend Yostin as a guide.
Yostin was the type of guide every birder can appreciate. He brimmed with birding knowledge and love for nature, and was friendly and accommodating. Though birds don't show up on demand, Yostin searched out an array of birds we would never have spotted alone. He was excited by our enthusiasm and literally went the extra mile to find everything we hoped to see. Highlights include a close and long look at a great tinamou and a scarlet macaw peeping out of its nest hole. I thoroughly recommend booking this tour of Carara with Yostin.
