Our guide was very knowledgeable, and I enjoyed the ride overall, but a bit more information upfront would have made it much more enjoyable. We were not told that we would be walking at some length through dusty, dung-filled paths, so I wore comfortable sandals, which led to the need to focus on avoiding big heaps of dung rather than on the wonderful scenery around us. Participants should be advised to wear comfortable hiking shoes.
Such a great time with Friday and Eric walking in the park finding birds. Friday was very knowledgeable and knew every bird we saw. Eric was a great driver and all in all it was a fabulous morning.
Our guide, Skinny, knew everything about birds. He was happy to answer questions and also explained questions about trees or the history of the park. He also had a book to show the birds that we heard, cause most of them we didn't see. I guess you have to be lucky to see a lot of birds, but we did see some nice ones and definitely heard a lot of their singing. We were also lucky to spot some other animals on the way. Overall it was a nice experience!
We highly recommend this safari for those wanting an all-round experience of wildlife in the Zambezi River environment. We were collected from our lodge on time and driven to the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park where we were met by our guide, Skinny. Our main interest was birding but Skinny was keen to show us all the park had to offer. We were pleasantly surprised to come across two white rhinos very early in the trip which for us was a highlight. The safari route follows the course of the Zambezi River, and this has the benefit of providing both good birding as well as seeing other general game. In the end we recorded over 30 species of birds, and of the other wildlife: rhino, wildebeest, impala, warthog, zebra and tree squirrel. The safari includes a short walk along the riverbank under the watchful eye of Skinny and an armed park ranger who kept a lookout for elephants. These were absent on the walk, but very much in view later at the Maramba River Lodge where we were staying. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the safari even though some of the elusive rare birds were not seen. Skinny had many interesting anecdotes and was very knowledgeable on all aspects relating to the bush and wildlife. If you are serious about learning about the region's wildlife and history this tour is well worth taking. The walking component is not strenuous and should be easily manageable by most. We are both over 60 and managed fine. Water and light refreshments are provided. Also, every effort was made by the guides to make sure that we felt safe.
I was very excited for this trip. The excitement was even more when I got into the game vehicle — I was so happy, I had never experienced something like this before. This was my first time going into the national park for sunrise. The river was shining — beautiful. The tour guide was really on top of answering our question, explaining even the little details. The snacks were great, and the little picnic spot was lovely. The communication was excellent between the company and us. My favorite part was seeing the fish eagles and hearing all the birds sing in the morning. We even got to see some hippos and zebras! A walking safari, is an excellent way to see the wildlife, and I felt safe knowing the car was nearby. In June, it is very cold here, so dress warmly and wear layers. It was amazing, and I would recommend this trip to anyone!
Our Birdie Safari with African Safari Experience was an incredible adventure from start to finish! We were picked up early in the morning and taken to the beautiful Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. Just being in the park was magical, but walking through it while spotting birds made the experience truly special. Our guide, Friday, was fantastic—friendly, enthusiastic, and incredibly knowledgeable about birdlife. He made the walk both fun and educational, pointing out species we never would have noticed on our own. Beyond the amazing variety of birds, we were also treated to incredible sightings of water monitor lizards, hippos, giraffes, and zebras! It felt like something out of a nature documentary. To top it all off, we were surprised with delicious snacks at the end of the safari, which was a thoughtful and much-appreciated touch. This tour is perfect for anyone looking for a unique twist on the traditional safari experience. If you’re visiting during the cooler months (June or July), be sure to dress warmly—mornings can be chilly! Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone looking to experience Zambia in a new and exciting way!

During our visit to the bird sanctuary in Livingstone, Zambia, we had an incredible experience that exceeded all expectations. The sanctuary itself is a peaceful haven, teeming with diverse bird species, from vibrant bee-eaters to majestic fish eagles. The real highlight, however, was our guide. Exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate, he provided fascinating insights into the behavior, calls, and habitats of the birds we encountered. His keen eye helped us spot species we would have otherwise missed, and he patiently answered all our questions. The sanctuary was well-maintained, and the walkways offered great views without disturbing the natural environment. A must-visit for nature lovers and bird enthusiasts alike.
