The day was very hot. The navigation tools used were not accurate and sent us down dirt roads, fields, and off road tracks, after only one hour on the bike we were not even out of Lucca, and turned back. The tour advertised a flat bike ride on a bike path - this is definitely not the case. Even with e-bike riding the bike along the many dirt paths was exhausting. Would not recommend this trip to anyone who is not extremely fit and capable of extreme exercise. The navigation system should be looked at - as it really was poor and unreliable re-routing often.
After reviewing the GPS track that was actually followed, we believe it is necessary to clarify a few points. The route followed deviated several times from the itinerary indicated by our navigation, starting already in the Lucca area. This also explains the frequent recalculations and the fact that, after about one hour, you were still near the city. The correct Lucca–Pisa route is about 30 km, practically flat, and mainly follows cycle paths and very quiet roads. There are also a few short gravel sections, but they are simple, smooth and without any technical difficulty. The fields, more difficult trails and busy road described in the review are not part of the planned itinerary, but were encountered after moving away from the indicated track. We understand that the intense heat may have made the day more tiring, but this is naturally a weather condition that we cannot control. Based on the recorded GPS track, we do not believe it is fair to attribute to the route characteristics and difficulties that came from roads which were not part of the tour.
