Op het Kathedraalplein van Vilnius hoor je de geschiedenis van de kathedraal vanuit de heidense tempel in het heilige eikenbos (de vallei van de gastvrijheid, de kerk gebouwd op de plaats van de tempel, zoals overal ter wereld, aangepast en geassimileerd in christendom) tot de belangrijkste Litouwse kerk. Betreed de cultus en voer het ritueel van Fulfillment of Dreams uit op de wonderbaarlijke bestratingstitel. Vind de Vrijheidssteen - een sculptuur die het begin van The Way of Freedom afzwakt. Litouwen was de eerste Sovjetrepubliek die de onafhankelijkheid van de USSR uitriep. Ontdek het bizarre verhaal van Gediminas Avenue - de hoofdstraat van de hoofdstad van Litouwen en naar welke bezienswaardigheden het leidt (KGB-museum, parlement, prachtige houten wijk Zverynas, enz.)
Na een eerste kennismaking met de geschiedenis van Vilnius, gaan we naar een van de hoeken van het plein van de kathedraal van Vilnius om het verhaal van de stad vanuit een andere hoek te horen en te genieten van een prachtig uitzicht op de bezienswaardigheden van Vilnius - de Gediminas-toren en de heuvel van drie kruisen.
Geniet van het uitzicht op het presidentieel paleis en de universiteit van Vilnius - de oudste universiteit in de Baltische staten, een van de oudste en beroemdste in Oost-Europa. Luister naar hun verhalen en legendes.
Op weg naar andere beroemde bezienswaardigheden van de oude binnenstad van Vilnius, genietend van authentieke middeleeuwse straten en achtertuinen.
Bewonder de St. Annes-kerk, de parel van de gotische architectuur, en bezoek de Bernardine-kerk, waar u fragmenten van het verwoeste interieur uit het Sovjettijdperk kunt zien, evenals de oudst bekende en gerestaureerde fresco's. We stoppen bij de ingang van de wereldberoemde Republiek Užupis. Loop over de brug, haal je visum en pauzeer in het café-parlement om de betoverende geschiedenis van Užupis als een wijk van de oude binnenstad van Vilnius breder te horen, drink een glas bier/wijn of koffie/thee, een lokale snack, en word gepresenteerd aan de belangrijkste punten van de Užupis-grondwet, evenals het doel en de levensstijl van de districtengemeenschap. Na de pauze lopen we dieper de wijk in om de Avenue of Constitutions te bezoeken en voor altijd verliefd te worden op Užupis.
Na terugkomst door smalle geplaveide straatjes terug naar het centrale deel van de oude binnenstad van Vilnius, sluiten we onze tour af op het stadhuisplein van Vilnius - om meer te ontdekken over Vilnius en zijn huidige leven en om andere bezienswaardigheden te bereiken die u op uw eigen. We worked with Baltics tours in implementing a tour that took us around Lithuania to explore our family roots. Baltics tours was extraordinary in all respects, and we wound up having the best vacation of our lives. Kestas was amazing to work with. He was fun to be with and he was very careful to provide the right balance of being there when we needed him, but backing off when he felt we wanted time alone. But by the end the trip, we loved having him there all the time. During the trip my wife lost her passport, and I know from past experience that normally one would expect to lose a day or more of your trip when that happens worrying and figuring out what to do. Kestas handled this situation so smoothly and confidently that we never worried and wound up replacing the passport without even a pause in our trip. Ruta was an excellent and fun guide. She is very knowledgeable about the architecture of the city, and she has great first-hand knowledge of the history of the area, having grown up under the Soviets and seen Lithuania gain independence in 1991. We had a great time on our walking tour of old town and learned far more then exploring on our own. Our tour guide Viktorija was amazing, and really enjoying being able to ask a local questions (I had a lot about my family from Lithuania, customs, etc). She was very knowledgeable and fun. I would also like to say that the communication leading up to the tour was above and beyond! Kestas was very willing to help and answer questions and make the entire experience a positive one.
