Begonnen in het jaar 1300 door Paus Bonifatius VIII, heeft de Kerk pelgrims aangemoedigd om naar de vier belangrijkste kerken in het Christendom te komen - de Grote Basilieken - en om ze te betreden via hun heilige deuren. Er zijn slechts 4 grote basilieken in de wereld - de hoogste classificatie van alle kerken - en ze zijn allemaal in Rome. In navolging van heiligen en pelgrims voor eeuwen en millenia voor u, geven wij u de kans om de officiële Vier Pauselijke Grote Basilieken van Rome te bezoeken en uzelf te ontfermen over de ontvangst van de bijgevoegde aflaat. De Oude Vier Grote Basilieken van Rome zijn de Basiliek van Sint Pieter, de Basiliek van Sint Paulus Buiten de Muren, de Basiliek van Sint Maria Major en de Aartsbasiliek van Sint Johannes Lateraan. Onze tour begint in het Vaticaan, waar de Sint-Pietersbasiliek gebouwd is op de plek waar het lichaam van Sint-Pieters nog steeds ligt. Zodra u de Sint-Pietersbasiliek bent binnengegaan, geeft onze deskundige katholieke gids u een rondleiding door het interieur van de basiliek, inclusief de Pietà van Michelangelo, de relikwieën en altaren van de belangrijkste heiligen van de katholieke kerk en de betrokken geschiedenis en natuurlijk het lichaam van Sint-Pieters. Petrus werd hier begraven onder het Hoogaltaar.
In de Basiliek van Sint-Paulus buiten de Muren bevinden zich tot op de dag van vandaag de overblijfselen van de grote apostel van de heidenen, Sint-Paulus. Pelgrims zullen de kettingen zien die Sint-Paulus vastbonden tijdens zijn opsluiting en huisarrest hier in Rome voordat ze ook zijn nieuw opgegraven sarcofaag zouden bekijken voordat ze een rondleiding krijgen door de rest van deze oude Theodosiusbasiliek.
Boogbasiliek van Sint-Jan van Lateranen (San Giovanni) - de kathedraal van Rome. Hier krijgt u opnieuw een gedetailleerde rondleiding door het interieur en zijn geschiedenis, inclusief het verhaal van de oude mozaïeken, en staat u voor de hoofden van de heiligen Petrus en Paulus, die in de basiliek zijn binnengebracht en in het jaar 1300 boven het altaar zijn geplaatst.
St Mary Major (Santa Maria Maggiore) - misschien wel de oudste kerk gewijd aan Maria in Rome, maar zeker de belangrijkste - om je nogmaals te verbazen over het gouden interieur en alles te leren over de fascinerende kenmerken, waaronder de verschillende pausen die hier begraven liggen, de relikwieën van de wieg van de geboorte van Christus, het wonderbaarlijke icoon van Salus Populi Romani en talloze andere verbluffende kenmerken.

The guide was extremely informative and I felt confident that he could answer any question I had. The Basilicas are beautiful and meaningful and I’m really glad I got to experience them in this way. We had no idea how difficult it would be to communicate with Roman Vacations and how unresponsive they were when we had concerns about the time for meeting for the 4 Basilicas tour. This was an important highlight to us and the biggest problem was the incorrect meeting time provided to us on the emailed confirmation form. What was provided to us via email was different from what their records provided. When we followed up with Roman Vacations, there was no open communication; according to them, we were the problem and they did not reimburse a cent of money for having missed the 4 Basilica tour. They were not truthful, which makes this company unethical and opportunistic to scamming tourists. I would NOT recommend using Roman Vacations to anyone who is thinking of traveling to Rome in the future. Beware! Do NOT employ this company!
Ciao! As per our previous discussions you were informed of the start time months before the tour date. You even acknowledged the new start time during the initial discussions. You attended the tour and then decided to leave the group and after our guide had spent a period of time trying to locate you, they had to make the decision to continue the tour as we have set entrance times we cannot miss. If you had stayed with the tour group you would not have missed out on anything. We hope you managed to enjoy the rest of your time in Rome
