Het paleis van Versailles, of in het Franse "Château de Versailles", is een van de grootste kastelen ter wereld. Het Paleis van Versailles staat op de Werelderfgoedlijst en is een van de mooiste verworvenheden van de Franse kunst in de zeventiende eeuw. Het voormalige jachthuis van Lodewijk XIII werd getransformeerd en uitgebreid door zijn zoon Lodewijk XIV die zijn hof en zijn regering in 1682 installeerde. Tot de Franse Revolutie slaagden koningen erin het kasteel te verfraaien. Dit koninklijke juweel is absoluut een must-see Frans monument. Waag je in het paleis, ontdek de spectaculaire architectuur en de prachtige kamers zoals de appartementen van de koning en de koningin, de vele woonkamers met verhalen en het adembenemende ontwerp van Mirror Hall om bezoekers te imponeren met zijn driehonderdzevenenvijftig spiegels, zijn marmer en brons decoraties en zijn vergulde bronzen sculpturen. Het bezoek eindigt met een inleiding tot de tuinen van Versailles. Dankzij de toegang zonder wachtrij, nodigt de gids u uit om de Royal Apartments te ontdekken.
De bouw van de koninklijke kapel werd voltooid in 1710 aan het einde van het bewind van Lodewijk XIV. Het was de vijfde - en laatste - kapel gebouwd in het paleis sinds het bewind van Lodewijk XIII. Het ontwerp werd in 1699 door Jules Hardouin-Mansart aan de koning gepresenteerd. Helaas stierf de eerste architect van de koning in 1708 vóór het einde van de werken, die werden voltooid door zijn zwager, Robert de Cotte.
De Koninklijke Opera is een van de grootste werken van de architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel. Ingehuldigd in 1770 tijdens het bewind van Louis XV, was het destijds de grootste concertzaal in Europa, en het was ook een geweldige technische prestatie en een indrukwekkende prestatie van decoratieve verfijning. Een theater voor monarchisch en vervolgens republikeins leven, het heeft vieringen, shows en parlementaire debatten georganiseerd.

De bosjes organiseerden regelmatig de wandeling van de koning en het vermaak van het hof. Geniet van een wandeling door de tuinen van Le Nôtre. Elke zomer biedt Versailles prachtig amusement in de tuinen om bezoekers de ervaring te geven van de pracht van de feesten in de tuin ten tijde van Louis XIV. De Petit Trianon In 1758 plant Louis XV de bouw van een nieuw klein kasteel. Hij beveelt Ange-Jacques Gabriel, een koninklijk paviljoen om de intimiteit van zijn gunst Madame de Pompadour te huisvesten. De Petit Trianon is een waar embleem van de neoklassieke architectuur. Bij de dood van Louis XV biedt Louis XVI het aan zijn jonge vrouw, Marie Antoinette. Ze verandert de botanische tuin van Louis XV door een weelderige Anglo-Chinese tuin. Een bezoek aan de Petit Trianon is een ontroerende onderdompeling in het dagelijkse leven van Marie Antoinette, een diep menselijke koningin. Vaak beschuldigd van frivoliteit, zou het tragisch eindigen tijdens de Franse revolutie. Benader de persoonlijkheid van deze historische figuur, beroemd om haar schoonheid, haar moderniteit en haar weelderige entertainment. Geniet van de tuinen om de Tempel van Liefde en Belvedere te ontdekken, dierbaar aan de Koningin. In 1687 gaf Louis XIV opdracht tot de bouw van een "klein paleis van roze marmer en porfier met prachtige tuinen", aldus de architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart. Het kasteel wordt dan "Marble Trianon" genoemd. Dit roze marmeren gebouw combineert subtiel weelderigheid en intimiteit. Veel originele gebeeldhouwde decoraties zijn zichtbaar in de appartementen, evenals prachtige Empire-meubels. Het Grand Trianon wordt omgeven door tuinen in Franse stijl, waarvan de talloze bloemen en bosjes bijdragen aan het creëren van een ontspannen sfeer. The Queen's Hamlet, gebouwd tussen 1783 en 1786 door Richard Mique, valt samen met de smaak van de tijd voor de charmes van het plattelandsleven. We had Jean-Paul as our tour guide and he was fabulous. He was charming, funny, a great photographer (and patient haha), and ever-knowledgeable about everything we saw! He even grew up in Versailles and could give us the insider’s view. We saw much more than we would’ve seen with anyone else. He made the experience so enjoyable. If you book this tour, ask for Jean-Paul!
My wife and I spent the day at Versailles with our private guide Jean Paul. He picked us at our hotel and navigated the roads and freeways of Paris. On the way, we watched a traffic piled up for miles behind striking cab drivers on the other side of the road. I was glad to have a local avoiding this chaos. Jean Paul was very knowledgeable and educated about French, European and global history. This was very helpful in understanding how Versailles fit into this history. I especially enjoyed Trianon and the model of a French village.

this was an incredible experience. We were picked up in the morning by Claude. He took us around the gardens, the chateau and then through the Trianon. Claude’s knowledge of the property and of French history was vast and added to the experience. At the end of the day, Claude drove us back to our hotel in Paris. This was a great day and worth the price.

Such a memorable day exploring the Palace and gardens with Gilles! You cannot know French history without diving into Louis XIV, and this passion project of his gives you a lot of context for his reign- the longest of any monarch in the world. Our friendly and informative guide picked us up in Paris at our hotel with a spacious and comfortable van and stayed with us the entire day (except lunch), returning us back to our hotel. The tour of the palace and walking of the grounds was well-paced, with just enough information and fascinating facts to enhance the experience that is already visually jaw-dropping. It is a LOT of walking, so comfy shoes are essential. The guide will also adjust to your pace and desires for breaks, a lunch of your chosen length, etc. Gilles is warm, laid back (which is really refreshing in the busy crowd of the palace), and highly knowledgeable - we would definitely recommend him and this amazing tour of a truly decadent French icon!

The tour was amazing. Ange was our tour guide and he was so patient, accommodated and knowledgeable about the place. We have generous amount of time to explore part of the garden, enjoy the water show before heading to the palace. It was a pretty good day although it could have been better. First, Gilles was very nice and a very good tour guide. My husband and I enjoy hearing about Versailles and learned a lot. Our granddaughter was bored and he didn’t engage with her too much on the elements of the tour, although he was very nice to her. The organization of the trip, however, could be better. We were picked up at 8:00 but had an 11:40 entry into the chateau. Even with the walking in the gardens we had some time to kill that we could have used at the end. It also meant retracing our steps since we couldn’t do the chateau and then the gardens and then over to the 2 other palaces. My husband is 71 and it was really too much walking for him - 6 miles by the count of my Apple Watch. If that was the only time the tour operator could get it would have been better to book a later start time and return later. The other thing I would strongly recommend is that you do not go to the fancy restaurant (Ore?). It was a huge rip off and took a lot of time away from the tour. It was my fault - Gilles showed me the menu but I just saw a sandwich that I knew my granddaughter would eat and didn’t even look at the rest. There is no way to get a single course meal there, it is crazy expensive for what you get, and it takes a very long time. Had that been pointed out I definitely would have chosen something else. It meant we had to rush through the Grand Trianon and the Queen’s Hamlet and even rushing we were 30 minutes late to get back to the driver. It was a combination of having late entry tickets and the long lunch. I also wished I knew how much we were missing coming this time of year. Not only were the fountains not operating but most of the statues outside were covered. There were also areas in the palace that we didn’t have tickets for. I guess I thought that for so much money that we had access to everything. And at the end of the long day the tour operator decided to save some money and hire a small car rather than the minivan we were promised. We did not receive a refund for the difference in cost.
Great tour, excellent transport and Jean Paul was great! :) The Petit Trianon was absolutely beautiful and the walk along the grounds. :)
