Verlaten Sanatoria van Tskaltubo

Ga op een onvergetelijke reis door Tskaltubo — het legendarische kuuroord uit het Sovjettijdperk. Ons avontuur begint bij het treinstation van Tskaltubo, ooit de belangrijkste verbinding tussen deze badplaats en het hart van de Sovjet-Unie — Moskou. Vervolgens verkennen we Sanatorium Medea, beroemd om zijn grote zuilen en adembenemende centrale hal. Van daaruit gaan we naar het iconische Badhuis nr. 6, ook wel bekend als Stalin's Bath, en vervolgens naar Badhuis nr. 8, een verlaten openbaar bad dat bekend staat om zijn enorme, ontzagwekkende koepel. We gaan verder naar Sanatorium Metallurg, waar we door de eens zo elegante woonruimtes en een spookachtig mooi verlaten theater dwalen — een plek die lang geleden zijn laatste voorstelling lijkt te hebben georganiseerd. Onze tour eindigt bij de Spring of Beauty, de enige drinkbare minerale bron in Tskaltubo. Hier proeven we het water dat al decennialang bezoekers trekt, in een resort dat meer bekend staat om zijn therapeutische badhuizen.

We starten een tour vanuit het hotel in Kutaisi. Alternatieve ontmoetingsplaats zou Kutaisi Central Square kunnen zijn. Na 15 minuten rijden bereiken we de stad Tskaltubo, voormalig Sovjet kuuroord. We verkennen verlaten sanatoria: 1. Sanatorium Medea - 40 minuten om rond te lopen. 2. Bad nr. 6 - of het bad van Stalin. 40 minuten om de site te verkennen. 3. Sanatorium Metalurg - 1 uur voor sightseeing. Sanatorium Shakhter - 1 uur voor het verkennen van de site. 5. Sanatorium Imereti - 1 uur om rond te lopen, Als optie kunnen we de Prometheus-grot bezoeken, gelegen op 15 minuten van Tskaltubo. het kan nog 1,5 uur duren.

This is a very unique tour. Lots of tours want to show you the best of the best, and this one shows the remnants of once beautiful, bustling buildings. You're definitely going into ruins that have seen better days- they're dilapetated, they have garbage around, and make sure to watch your step because there's really no safety measures in these buildings. But you have a unique experience to talk about. Bring your closed-toed walking shoes (and probably get a tetanus shot just in case), and be prepared to accept the places as they are. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the sanatoriums as well, but the places also speak for themselves.
If you want an itinerary outside the usual visits, you must not miss this site. The guides will explain the history and details of these buildings once used as sanatoriums and spas. Really interesting.

It has been a pleasure to visit the abandoned sanatorium of Tskaltubo and get a private tour with Giorgi. Beside the sightseeing, he explained us a lot of historic facts about Georgia and the genesis of the sanatoriums, which allowed us to better understand the country.
