Venetië staat inderdaad bekend als de meest romantische van de romantische steden, maar in het donker verdwijnt de romantiekfactor plotseling om ruimte te laten voor mysterie en melancholie: Venetië is een stad met een lange geschiedenis en, onvermijdelijk, die geschiedenis bevat er een paar skeletten en geheimen. De Rialtobrug is de oudste van de vier bruggen over het Canal Grande in Venetië, Italië. Het verbindt de sestieri (districten) van San Marco en San Polo en is sinds de eerste constructie als pontonbrug in 1173 verschillende keren herbouwd en is nu een belangrijke toeristische attractie in de stad.
Piazza San Marco vertegenwoordigt het hart van Venetië, waar u versteld kunt staan van verschillende historische architectonische monumenten zoals de basiliek, ook vernoemd naar San Marco, of de renaissancegebouwen langs de lange zijden van het plein. Maar er is nog iets: wist je dat wandelen op Piazza San Marco eigenlijk betekent dat je op het enige plein van Venetië loopt? Het plein is altijd mooi, ook als het wordt overspoeld door het water van de lagune: een ongewone en indrukwekkende ervaring voor de lokale bevolking en toeristen.
Het Canal Grande van Venetië (Canal Grande) is de belangrijkste waterweg van de stad en kronkelt in een grote S-vorm door het hart van de stad. Het kanaal is omzoomd met prachtige paleizen en historische gebouwen die het rijke tapijtwerk van de Venetiaanse architectuur tentoonstellen. Het kanaal wordt doorkruist door vier bruggen, waaronder de beroemde Rialtobrug en is een must-see als u Venetië bezoekt.

Alex was absolutely amazing! He was passionate about the stories he was telling and did this in an incredibly immersive way. We relived the stories right where they supposed to have happened. The legends were told in the most interesting and humourous way to lighten the mood after the darkest and most horrific stories. During the walk to the locations he sprinkled it with recent and ancient history. We learned a lot about the way locals live here as well. This wxperience was absolutely perfect and we would redo this any time! Absolutely worth booking this with Alex!
Manuela was AMAZING!! She’s a native of Venice and is from multiple generations going back hundreds of years in Venice. She knows everything about the city, tells engaging stories, historical and personal experiences and kept all of us, including our teen boys fully engaged in every way. She’s funny, animated and clearly loves her job. She also has a YouTube channel & produces videos about visiting Venice and Italy. It was exactly what we were looking for and would highly recommend this tour and Manuela! She has 7 gondoliers in her family! You don’t get more Venetian than that! She took us to her favorite gelato place, recommended non-touristy restaurants & parts of the city to visit, explained the architecture, how Venice began and it’s importance on the Silk Road, Marco Polo’s family, etc. we saw so much of the city in such a short period of time but never felt rushed. I can’t say enough!! Manuela is the best!!!

For an ancient city, we heard remarkably few ghost stories or even creepy myths. It was more of an evening walking tour of Venice with a few (not particularly interesting stories that lacked suspense). The guide was nice enough but - after having taken ghost tours in a number of other cities - we found this one disappointing. In short, if you're looking for a real ghost tour, don't pick this tour. If you want a pleasant enough evening stroll, this works.

We had a fantastic experience on Venice on this tour. Our guide, Giovanna, met us at our hotel, and we agreed on a route that allowed us to see the most of Venice without seeing places we had already been. She asked about our particular interests and tailored the talk to them. She was incredibly knowledgeable and able to answer every question we asked, including some on more recent history (second World War). As to the tour itself - we’ll, you can’t really go wrong with sightseeing Venice! It was fun to learn some of the ghost stories and superstitions, and Giovanna pointed out details I certainly would not have noticed. But the tour was much more, and I learned how the city came to be originally, and some of the very interesting things about the architecture that I had been noticing were explained. She also very kindly provided us with restaurant and sightseeing recommendations for the rest of our visit. I would book again with Eyes of Rome in a heartbeat.
