Vanuit Tenerife: vulkaan Tajogaite, La Cumbrecita en de oude stad

Dit is niet zomaar een tour: het is een unieke kans om La Palma te ontdekken via een route die persoonlijk is samengesteld door Basso Lanzone, een officiële gids met jarenlange ervaring op de Canarische Eilanden. Elke stop is zo gekozen dat u in één dag de meest authentieke en spectaculaire aspecten van het eiland kunt zien. We beginnen met een bezoek aan de charmante hoofdstad, Santa Cruz de La Palma, met zijn koloniale straten, houten balkons en unieke sfeer. Vanaf daar klimmen we naar het uitkijkpunt La Cumbrecita in het Nationaal Park Caldera de Taburiente om te genieten van een adembenemend uitzicht. Het meest indrukwekkende moment komt in Tacande, waar we de vulkaan Tajogaite (Cumbre Vieja) naderen, die op 19 september 2021 ontstond. We rijden dan over een weg die op lava is aangelegd. U ziet met eigen ogen de kracht van de natuur en ziet waar een hele wijk verdwenen is.

De veerboot vertrekt om 8.30 uur vanuit de haven van Los Cristianos naar Santa Cruz de La Palma.
De eerste stop is in de hoofdstad, waar je vrije tijd hebt (ongeveer 30 minuten), zodat je enkele van de meest emblematische plekken kunt ontdekken, zoals: Het schip van de Maagd, het is een reproductie van de Santa María aan boord waarop Christoffel Columbus Amerika ontdekte en werd gebouwd ter nagedachtenis aan de palmzeilers die hier vertrokken met zeilboten gemaakt van het hout van onze bergen. Binnen is het marinemuseum met zeekaarten en reproducties van enkele van deze schepen die op het eiland zijn gemaakt. Het kasteel van Santa Catalina, dat een van de belangrijkste in Spanje was op de route naar Amerika. De typische balkons die een van de beste balkons of overstekken zijn die bewaard zijn gebleven op de Canarische Eilanden. Markeer de dubbele balkons die zijn gebouwd om de huizen te ventileren.
We maken een stop om dit beschermde landschap te zien en observeren de hoofdstad vanaf de krater van de La Caldereta-vulkaan.
De volgende stop is in de uitsluitingszone van de wijk Tacande, waar je een eerste blik op de vulkaan zult hebben en dan ga je naar Tazacorte, waar je de jongste lavastromen in Spanje ziet.
We stoppen bij het Tajuya-uitkijkpunt om de Cumbre Vieja-vulkaan te observeren die op 19 september 2021 werd geboren en die tijdens zijn uitbarsting meer dan 1.000 huizen heeft verwoest. Deze plek is door de pers van over de hele wereld gebruikt om de laatste uitbarsting van de Canarische Eilanden vast te leggen.
De veerboot vertrekt om 17.00 uur vanuit Santa Cruz de La Palma naar de haven van Los Cristianos (Tenerife).

The weather wasn't the best on the day, but we still got some great views, particularly of the volcano and lava flow. We were going to have a coffee at a market but it was closed, and we were left to our own devices in a not particularly interesting part of the island while we waited for the bus to arrive. Also, where we stopped for lunch was just near a supermarket with not much to see. A good day out and I enjoyed it, but it could have been better.

A 9 km round walk, being the first part in descent to reach the closest part to the 5 craters that opened during the last eruption. Wonderful views and a blend of feelings between the sadness of destruction and the beauty of nature's struggle to stay alive in the ashes.

I took this tour in March 2025. The views were amazing. I had enough time to visit these beautiful places. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
Great day out despite the early start and a little sea sickness on the way. That was odd because the sea conditions both ways looked similar, but on the outbound journey we experienced significantly more movement of the ship. From then on all great: organisation, views, pace, guide, driver, bus and late lunch stop. Persuaded us to come back to la Palma for a much longer visit. One thing i did note was that the maximum participants was stated to be 59. Our trip had around 20 and I suspect that significantly more people would adversely impact the experience.

Rosa our guide was very knowledgeable and concise. The tour and the emotion she conveyed made for a great tour. Would have liked more time in Santa Cruz and maybe seen where the lava flow actually reached the sea but maybe we may have missed other parts. Worth the trip.
The volcano and all the lava. Amazed that it made so much damage to the surroundings. The guide was very good. She could talk 4 different languages. But 2 had been enough. But she explained very good what we saw and experienced during the trip.
