Kinkaku-ji (Gouden Paviljoen) is een zenboeddhistische tempel in Kyoto, Japan. Een adembenemend UNESCO Werelderfgoed dat bekend staat om zijn schitterende gouden buitenkant en serene tuinen. De naam Gouden Paviljoen is afgeleid van het bladgoud waarmee het paviljoen is bedekt. Het gebruikte goud was bedoeld om eventuele vervuiling of negatieve gedachten en gevoelens ten opzichte van de dood te verzachten en te zuiveren. Het Gouden Paviljoen is een gebouw van drie verdiepingen op het terrein van het Rokuon-ji tempelcomplex. Elke verdieping heeft een andere bouwstijl. Het paviljoen bevat met succes drie verschillende stijlen van architectuur, die shinden, samoerai en zen zijn.
Er zijn ongeveer 30.000 Inari-heiligdommen in Japan, Fushimi Inari Taisha is het hoofdheiligdom, om de Shinto-god van rijst, Inari, te aanbidden. Het heiligdom staat bekend om Senbon Torii, duizenden vermiljoen rode toriipoorten, die een verbluffend en meeslepend tunnelachtig pad creëren naar de heilige berg Inari. In de 1300 jaar sinds de oprichting in 711 AD zijn mensen hier bijeengekomen om te bidden voor overvloedige oogsten, zakelijke welvaart, de veiligheid van hun huis en gezin en de vervulling van alle andere wensen.
Kasteel Nijo-jo werd gebouwd in 1603 als de Kyoto residentie van Tokugawa Ieyasu, de eerste shogun van de Edoperiode (1603-1868). Het is een van de bekendste kastelen in Japan, de paleisgebouwen zijn misschien wel de best bewaard gebleven voorbeelden van kasteelpaleisarchitectuur uit het Japanse feodale tijdperk, en het kasteel werd in 1994 aangewezen als UNESCO-werelderfgoed. De bamboebossen van Arashiyama zijn een must-see bij een bezoek aan Kyoto en dienen als symbool van de stad. Nonomiya Shrine is een Shinto heiligdom in de wijk Arashiyama aan de westkant van de stad Kyoto. In tegenstelling tot de meeste heiligdommen die iconische vermiljoen torii poorten hebben, heeft Nonomiya Shrine een kenmerkende zwarte torii poort die bekend staat als een kuroki torii. Ondanks zijn kleine omvang heeft het heiligdom een lange geschiedenis, gesticht in de oudheid als een zuiveringsheiligdom voor keizerlijke prinsessen die werden aangesteld als priesteressen voor het Ise-heiligdom. Nonomiya Shrine heeft een reputatie voor het helpen en bemiddelen voor vrouwen, en veel parochianen zijn vrouwen die liefde of wens voor kinderen en een veilige bevalling willen vinden. Veel van de omamori die te koop zijn in het heiligdom weerspiegelen het thema van het geluk van vrouwen, en je kunt een verscheidenheid aan amuletten vinden die verkrijgbaar zijn bij het kantoor van het heiligdom.
De Togetsukyobrug is de meest iconische bezienswaardigheid in Arashiyama. Oorspronkelijk gebouwd tijdens de Heian periode (794-1185), werd het voor het laatst gereconstrueerd in de jaren 1930. Deze beroemde brug overspant de rivier de Katsura en biedt een schilderachtig uitzicht op de omliggende bergen en het rivierlandschap.

We found the instructions to find the tour guide very confusing and nearly missed the trip!! However once we found Frederick (or he found us) it was an amazing experience with just the correct amount of time at each place. It was a very hot day when we went so Frederick made sure the coach was there early so it was cool when we got onboard. Would highly recommend

Anson was excellent. Very knowledgeable and explained things well. He deserves 5 stars. . However, the tour itself was too long. We didn’t need all that time at the shrines. All It did was make people tired in the heat.

This bus tour stood out to me compared to the others. Our tour guide, Lee, was excellent at managing a large group while keeping everyone engaged. He created a WhatsApp group for all participants and provided clear instructions, updates, and Google Maps links throughout the day, which made everything very easy to follow. As we traveled between destinations, Lee shared the history and background of each site before we arrived, giving us valuable context and helping us appreciate what we were seeing. We visited Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Temple), Arashiyama, and Fushimi Inari Shrine. His explanations brought each location to life, and his humor and storytelling kept the journey entertaining from start to finish. The tour was very well organized, allowing plenty of free time to explore each attraction while still benefiting from Lee's guidance and local knowledge. Exploring Kyoto was easy, informative, and enjoyable with him leading the way. I highly recommend Mr. Lee to anyone looking for a memorable and well-organized tour experience in Kyoto. Pro tip you can leave the last site early and catch a train back and reach your hotel by 445.

FANTASTIC tour of the main attractions of Kyoto! The entire day was well executed at a relaxed pace. We boarded the bus thinking it was going to be a miss of an excursion because of the incessant rain but it turned out to be the HIGHLIGHT of our Japan trip! The rain was there throughout but there were less crowds and the scenery was beautiful! But our wonderful guide Chris was the miracle worker here!! We cannot recommend him enough!! From the onset Chris had made a good plan to communicate with all of us on the tour via a WhatsApp group. He reached out before the tour started and made us all at ease as to where and how to locate him outside of the busy Tokyo Central Station. He was so chill and kind …. We didn’t bring any cash with us and he lent us some until we could withdraw money at the convenience store on route. That was the first indicator of a kind and good person who would guide us through the day with fun jokes and anecdotes . It felt like we were touring with a family member because he took his responsibility personally instead of as a job. He treated everyone with respect and patience while accommodating individual requests at lunch and for bathroom breaks. He always consulted with our group before making an executive decision on time spent at the different sites . We actually all got emotional saying goodbye at the end of the day because Chris and all of us had bonded! Thanks for making a truly great trip in Kyoto for all of us Chris!
