We bezoeken 2 boeddhistische tempels Borobudur-tempel Mendut-tempel (ouder en belangrijker dan de Borobudur-tempel). All-inclusive: vervoer, gids, toegangsticket voor elke bestemming, probeer lokaal fruit, elke gast krijgt een souvenir. We gaan naar de Borobudur-tempel, hebben 3 uur nodig vanuit de haven van Semarang, en verkennen de Borobudur- en Mendut-tempel rond 3 uur, we krijgen een snack (traditioneel eten of we noemen jajanan pasar), daarna gaan we terug naar de haven van Semarang, 3 uur nodig

Bij aankomst in de Borobudur verken je de tempel met een lokale gids. en het verhaal leren van het verhaal van Boeddha Gautama over het reliëf op de muren van de Borobudur-tempel (te voet). Als 's werelds grootste boeddhistische tempel wordt de Borobudur beschouwd als een van de zeven wereldwonderen. Ontmoet 504 levensgrote Boeddhabeelden, elk uit één steen gesneden.
Mendut, gebouwd rond de 7e eeuw, is de oudere dan de Borobudur-tempel. Veel mensen gebruiken het tot nu toe om te bidden. De tempel werd gebouwd en voltooid tijdens het bewind van koning Indra van de Sailendra-dynastie. De inscriptie uit de 7e eeuw vermeldde dat koning Indra van Sailendra een heilig gebouw heeft gebouwd met de naam Venuvana, wat "bamboebos" betekent. We zullen 3 grote Boeddhabeelden vinden in de Mendut-tempel Cahyawuni Bodhisattva's (boeddhistische godheden), zoals Avalokitesvara, Vajrapani.

Maxi, our guide contacted us the night before, confirming the trip, and he was waiting for us when we deboarded. His laugh, attitude and knowledge were great. It made it visit to Borobudur including the drive from and back to the cruise port, including a visit to a Batik shop, a great experience that we will never forget.

We took a Viking cruise but wanted to go to Borobudur by ourselves. Maxi picked us up and was already waiting for us, with a big smile and ready to welcome us. He navigated through the traffic because he new we had to get back at certain time. Always happy to answer our questions in the car about the culture of Indonesia. We got to Borobudur well a head of time before the Viking tours arrived got to learn and see the magnificent temple, we walked around the site, he had cold water and crackers for us at all times and a cold clean towel to refresh ourselves. We head back to our cruise well a head of time, he always had a smile and service actitude I really, really recommend him!!

Semarang City still has elements of Dutch architecture and heritage, yet is moving out of its colonial past and developing a tourist industry. There are narrow alleys with small shops, homes and food places that are picturesque and welcoming. The people are very friendly. While visiting a temple area we were greeted by a few dozen school children on a field trip. They were busy filming us on their phones and welcoming us in English. Some engaging in conversation. Their teacher/Head Master greeted me and explained that his students were very excited to see Westerners, especially Americans, and wanted to practice their English. They were so enthusiastic and we enjoyed short conversations which made them so appreciative. It did feel a bit strange for us to be the objects of filming/photography. This area deserves our support and respect. The cruise industry has the potential to have a very positive impact.
