Een dagtour met een kleine groep vanuit Ljubljana naar de grotten van Škocjan die op de UNESCO-lijst staan en de Venetiaanse kustplaats Piran, met een lokale Gids en niet meer dan 8 gasten. In een land met duizenden grotten is Škocjan degene waar we onze bezoekende vrienden naartoe nemen. Je loopt door een ondergrondse canyon uitgehouwen door de Reka rivier, over een loopbrug die bijna 50 meter boven het water ligt, door zalen die groot genoeg zijn om een kathedraal te herbergen. Het staat op de UNESCO-lijst, en is veel rustiger dan de drukkere showgrotten van Slovenië, wat precies de reden is waarom we het voor deze route kozen. Op weg naar de kust stop je bij het kasteel Socerb, gelegen aan de rand van het Karstplateau met daaronder de hele Golf van Triëst. Dan Piran, vijf eeuwen Venetië in één compacte oude stad : smalle straatjes, Tartiniplein, de kleine haven, tijd voor een vislunch aan het water, en in de zomermaanden, genoeg vrije tijd voor een duik in de Adriatische Zee. Uw Gids weet welke konoba uw uur waard is.

Uw dag begint met ophalen in het centrum van Ljubljana. Op de ongeveer 1 uur durende rit introduceert uw Gids de Karst, de kalksteenregio die zijn naam gaf aan karstlandschappen wereldwijd, en de grot waar u zo doorheen gaat lopen. Daarna een rondleiding van 2 uur door de grotten van Škocjan : een ondergrondse canyon uitgehouwen door de rivier de Reka, een voetgangersbrug die bijna 50 meter boven het water ligt, zalen die groot genoeg zijn om een kathedraal te herbergen. UNESCO-lijst, en veel rustiger dan de drukkere show grotten van Slovenië.
Op weg naar de kust stop je bij het kasteel Socerb, gelegen aan de rand van het Karstplateau. Vanuit het kasteel opent de hele Golf van Triëst zich onder u, de Sloveense kust en Italië in één uitzicht. Een korte stop, tijd voor foto's en het uitzicht.
Dan Piran, vijf eeuwen Venetië in één compacte oude stad: smalle straatjes, het Tartiniplein, de kleine haven. Uw Gids leidt u door het historische centrum, dan is de tijd aan u, een vislunch aan het water, een koffie op het plein en in de zomermaanden een duik in de Adriatische Zee. Uw Gids weet welke konoba uw uur waard is. Na de vrije tijd een ontspannen rit terug naar Ljubljana met een drop-off in het centrum.

This was an outstanding day trip and one of the highlights of my visit to Slovenia. The Škocjan Caves were absolutely incredible. Seeing this UNESCO World Heritage Site in person is an experience that photos simply can't capture. The immense underground chambers and natural formations were breathtaking, and the guided tour was both informative and well organized. After the caves, we visited Piran, a beautiful coastal town with charming streets, stunning Adriatic views, and a relaxed atmosphere. It was the perfect contrast to the caves and gave us time to explore, enjoy the scenery, and experience another side of Slovenia. The entire day was well paced, professionally organized, and offered a wonderful mix of natural beauty, history, and culture. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Slovenia.

This was a last minute tour because two different vendors both had canceled my coveted tours. However, this made up for the dissapoint of the promised tours. Went to the Ŝkocjan Caves, and Piran. I felt went into two different environments one was mountainous and other Mediterranean. My guide Tomaź was great. He answered all my questions, was always prompt, and warmly personable with the travelers.

A lot of driving on the road and ticket is not included in the price but this is a small group compared to other tour group.

The guide Thomas was extremely knowledgeable, interesting and accommodating. Varied experiences. The caves were awe-inspiring with a pleasant walk to get to them and a walk up to a viewpoint with Thomas afterwards. Seeing the river flowing through the cavern was marvellous as were the columns formed over thousands of years. Made me think of 'Alien'. We drove to the home of the Lippanzaners. Seeing literally (I mean it) hundreds of the white horses fulfilled a childhood dream. I was impressed that we could drive past their fields and take photos without hindrance. Then a drive to Piran, a picturesque place with a nice seafood restaurant recommended by our guide. A worthwhile experience.

What a day out! Our guide Nina did a brilliant job on that day, her pace was gentle and clean, her commentary is well constructed and relevant and also pleasing to the ears, she is one of the best guide I had in Slovenia, very clear instruction throughout the day. Went to both Postojna and Skocjan Caves, both should be visited, each has something unique and breathtaking. There are around 500 steps to go up in Skocjan Caves, worth it, but something to consider when deciding your itinerary. Piran is a lovely little town, unfortunately for us it rained the whole day, but we had a fabulous meal and dessert, so enjoyed the experience regardless of the weather.
We completely agree that both Postojna Cave and Škocjan Caves are unique in their own way and absolutely worth visiting. We are sorry that the weather did not cooperate during your visit, but we are happy to hear that you still enjoyed the atmosphere of Piran. A good dessert often helps! 😊
