Chef Parker has prepared this tour immaculately. He tells the history of Charleston so well with little punches of humor. He’s not afraid to tell the good, bad, and the ugly. He also correlates the history with food. After the walking tour, you walk to a small intimate restaurant and sit at the bar while he prepares lunch just for the tourists. When I tell you this man can cook as they say in the south he puts his foot in that food. He also pairs each meal with a glass of wine. This year he even curated the appetizer for us specifically and made she crab soup. The shrimp n grits was hands down the best I’ve ever had. I can’t recall the name of the dessert, but I know it was gooey, cake, and crunch and made for the perfect mixture. You will fall in love with how passionate chef is about food and history. I cannot wait until we see him again next year.!
Jenny, thank you so much for returning for a second year! Hearing that I 'put my foot in' the She-crab soup and shrimp 'n' grits is the ultimate compliment for a Lowcountry chef! I love bringing out those 200-year-old historic cookbooks and sharing the unscripted history behind Charleston’s culinary culture. For anyone planning a Charleston food tour or cooking class, I always encourage booking directly with me at undiscoveredcharleston.com. Third-party platforms simply don't prompt for food allergies, dietary aversions, or custom Lowcountry dish requests. Booking direct lets me personally accommodate your needs and tailor my storytelling to your interests—whether that’s Gullah-Geechee history, French Huguenot heritage, or icons like Nat Fuller. I can't wait to cook for you all again at undiscoveredcharleston.com! P.S. For anyone unfamiliar: in African-American and Southern tradition, 'putting your foot in a dish' is a superlative meaning the food tastes exceptional! Next year, I’m sticking both my feets in! lol Very kind regards, Chef Forrest
Amazing experience. It began with a fascinating tour of Charleston that included lots of food history, but so much more. It ended with a delicious chef prepared and served lunch with wonderful conversation, cooking tips and more stories.

This was our second time doing the Undiscovered Charleston Cooking Tour with Chef Forrest, and both times have been completely different experiences. That’s one of the things we love about it—you can come back and still learn, taste, and experience something new. Chef Forrest truly knows his Charleston history! He doesn’t just give you a few historical facts along the way. He brings Charleston’s history to life and connects it directly to the food he prepares. Some of the recipes he uses date back hundreds of years, and he actually has the original historic cookbooks the recipes came from. How amazing is that? You’re not just eating a meal—you’re literally tasting a piece of Charleston’s history. The food is absolutely DELICIOUS and prepared fresh right in front of you. As Chef Forrest cooks, he explains the history behind each dish and how the ingredients, recipes, people, and culture all connect. Each dish is also paired with wine, which takes the entire experience to another level. Great food, wonderful wine pairings, incredible history, and Chef Forrest’s storytelling make this so much more than a typical food tour. We learned, laughed, ate VERY well, and enjoyed every minute of it. Second time, completely new experience, and just as amazing as the first. We would absolutely do it a third time! If you’re visiting Charleston, put this one on your list. Come hungry, enjoy the wine, and get ready to experience Charleston history in a way you can actually taste
Thank you so much for returning for a second tour! The Undiscovered Charleston Cooking Tour with Chef Forrest was absolutely amazing! The food was delicious and prepared fresh right in front of us, which made the experience feel so personal and special. What really sets this tour apart is how Chef Forrest combines Charleston’s history with the food he prepares. The historical tour ties directly into the dishes, so you’re not just tasting incredible food—you’re learning the stories, culture, and history behind it. Chef Forrest was knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about both Charleston and its cuisine. This was so much more than a cooking tour; it was a wonderful combination of history, storytelling, and an unforgettable meal. Definitely one of the highlights of our time in Charleston. Highly recommend! This is my second time doing his tour and everything there was something new to learn and new food to try.

This tour is the perfect blend of a Charleston history walking tour and a cooking class. Chef Forrest is incredibly knowledgeable about the city's history and keeps everyone engaged with fascinating stories throughout the walk. Afterward, learning about Southern cuisine while enjoying a delicious three course meal with perfectly paired wines is the ideal way to end the experience. I enjoyed it so much that this was my second time taking the tour, and I already plan to do it again!

This was easily the best activity we did during our visit to Charleston. Chef Forrest gives a great walking tour of the city with plenty of history and wit along the way. Lunch was simply amazing - the best meal we had in Charleston. Chef prepares the meal and flights of drinks and explains the history of the cuisine and ingredients. Highly recommended - we will do this again next time we visit!
Hey Jason! Thank you so much for the kind words. I’ve always believed the best way to experience Charleston is through its history and its table, so I’m thrilled our chef-led food tour and cooking class became the highlight of your visit. It was a pleasure sharing the city’s stories, flavors, and traditions with you. Looking forward to welcoming you and your family back the next time you’re in the Lowcountry for another great meal and a few more hidden gems. Kind regards, Chef
My mom, sisters, and I throughly enjoyed our time with Chef Forrest Parker (aka Gump). After a very informative and engaging walk about town, where we learned about the history, culture, food, and architecture that make Charleston what it is, we arrived at Bistro A Vin. We then dined on a feast prepared by Chef Gump (gazpacho, shrimp and grits, berries and cream), sipped on some wines chosen by the cafe owner, and chatted about Chef Gump’s culinary journey. It was a truly incredible day and well worth the money!
Thank you! I’m so glad your family had such a memorable time exploring history and savoring that classic shrimp and grits with me.
