Verken Siem Reap per Tuk Tuk terwijl we door bruisende avondmarkten, oude restaurants, eetgelegenheden met alleen lokale bewoners en verborgen eetgelegenheden in de stad reizen. Onderweg ontdek je gerechten die zijn gevormd door erfgoed, veerkracht en de diverse gemeenschappen van Cambodja – waaronder een gerecht dat is geboren tijdens het Rode Khmer-tijdperk, smaken uit minderheidsgemeenschappen en een geliefd legacy-restaurant dat generaties lang heeft gevoed. Uw lokale foodie Gids deelt de verhalen achter de borden door middel van voedsel, cultuur, geschiedenis en het dagelijks leven. Meer dan een proeverij – een avond vol ontdekkingen. In 8 zorgvuldig gekozen stops en meer dan 20 proeverijen geniet je van alles, van streetfoodfavorieten tot verborgen lokale specialiteiten, met onbeperkt bier en frisdrank inbegrepen. Onze reis begint met een hapje en een koud biertje onderweg naar de meest levendige straat van Siem Reap.
Vervolgens gaan we op weg naar Angkor Wat, waar we stoppen om te genieten van de exotische smaken van tropisch fruit. En voor de avonturiers: we kunnen een aantal ongewone lekkernijen proeven bij een lokale eetstraat.
Vervolgens gaan we naar ons favoriete familiestalletje langs de weg om te genieten van twee typisch Cambodjaanse gerechten: een perfecte balans van zoet, zuur, zout en pittig.
Vervolgens gaan we een verborgen achterstraat in naar de topkeuze van onze tuktukchauffeur, waar u een uniek gerecht proeft dat alleen in Cambodja te vinden is. Dit is er een die u waarschijnlijk nog nooit hebt geprobeerd!
Terwijl we terug de stad ingaan, stoppen we bij een drukke kraam aan de straatkant, op het pad voor een lokale pagode, net als ze de boel aan het opzetten zijn voor de late-night-menigte. Hier proberen we twee kenmerkende gerechten die deze plek zijn geweldige reputatie hebben bezorgd.
Onze reis gaat verder naar het hart van de toeristische stad, waar we u kennis laten maken met een populaire lokale kraam die bekend staat om zijn overheerlijke, rokerige varkensribbetjes die aan de rivier worden geserveerd.
Voor ons laatste culinaire genot gaan we naar een levendig achterstraatrestaurant vol met lokale bewoners, waar we genieten van sappige zeevruchten met onze beroemde Kampot-peper.
Sluit onze avond af in een verborgen tuinoase, nippend aan een creatieve cocktail of mocktail geïnspireerd op lokale Cambodjaanse smaken. Don't miss this! It was an unforgettable evening full of delicious authentic Cambodian food outside the typical touristy places. On my own I never would have tried or even found pretty much any of the dishes (grilled skewered stuffed frog for example or soup with snails). And you left absolutely stuffed as well, since there were so many tastings. Miss Hong, my guide, was so friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable and really made the whole night fun. I learned so much both about Cambodian food and culture. Our driver was also amazing—very safe and kept me comfortable the entire time. Top notch organisation as well. I booked the tour last minute through the website and it worked our great. The company contacted me immediately and was very responsive. They even ran the tour even though I was the only participant

Our tour started with a tranquil gondola trip on the lovely lake outside Angkor with Sarath. It then went up a gear as we headed to a night market by Tuk Tuk where we sampled excellent street food navigated with enthusiasm by Sarath. From there we went to a number of local restaurants serving a variety of dishes introduced with gusto by our guide Sarath. Our tour ended at the splendid Wild cocktail bar, a lovely venue with drinks to match. All the while Sarath imparted her take on Cambodian life with a level of sparkling enthusiasm which we won’t forget.

I booked a midweek food tour as a solo traveller and it was the best decision I made. I was the only one on the tour so my guide Rorm made sure to tailor the experience and really brought the food to life with passion and stories behind each dish. My Tuktuk driver was also incredibly kind, informative and helpful making it even more fun. Our guide Rorm was great. So kind and knowledgeable about the culture and food. He took some detours to give us a special experience. The highlight was trying durian and stuffed frog. The food was plentiful and interesting and the tuk tuk was very fun.

I've done food tours in at least 10 other countries before and nothing comes close to the range of food and the experience on this tour. Come with an empty stomach and a (very) open mind and you will not be disappointed (no spoilers lol). Hong was a fantastic 10/10 guide, knowledgeable and immensely passionate about her culture and eating - exactly the energy this kind of tour needs.
