Udawalawe National Park, het zesde grootste dierenreservaat van Sri Lanka, ligt op 112 mijl (180 km) van Colombo in het zuid-centrale deel van het eiland. Het park ligt net ten zuiden van de Centrale Hooglanden, waarvan de helling een betoverende achtergrond vormt. Udawalawe National Park werd opgericht in 1972 met als doel het opvanggebied van het Udawalawe-reservoir te beschermen, dat water levert voor landbouw en waterkrachtcentrales, verspreid over een gebied van 30.821 dat lijkt op een Afrikaans wildpark.

Je begint je tour vanuit Mirissa om 11:00 uur. Uw chauffeur haalt u op bij uw hotel en brengt u naar Udawalawe. Je bereikt de Udawalawe om 14.30 uur, ga verder naar Udawalawe National Park waar je je safari-jeep ontmoet om op een mooie jeepsafari te gaan. Geniet van een drie uur durende safari die je de kans geeft om het verbazingwekkende Udawalawe National Park te verkennen. Reis door de moerassen, bossen en graslanden van het park dat in de jaren zeventig werd aangelegd als een toevluchtsoord voor dieren in het wild. Bekijk de watervogels en Sri Lankaanse olifanten waarvoor het park beroemd is. Vang een glimp op van de andere zoogdieren en vogels, evenals de reptielen, amfibieën en vlinders. Na de safari keert u terug naar uw voertuig en bent u om 21.00 uur terug in het hotel, waarmee u uw tour voltooit.

Awesome experience! Couldn’t recommend enough. We were picked up from our hotel in Weligama and had the 4 hour safari option. We saw over 75 elephants and lots of other wildlife.

Kani drove us to the park and he was fabulous. Janaka was our safari driver and he was excellent. Janaka could spot wildlife, especially birds, which enhanced our experience. The elephants were fun to watch. They are much smaller than African elephants, so we got really close to them. Lots of fun! Be ready for a bumpy ride.

It was a unique and beautiful experience! The organization went smoothly and especially my driver (Kani) was incredibly nice and helpful! Would book a tour or ride with him again at any time! The safari itself was also great. Experience elephants and other animals in the wild is a great experience. Under Safari Guide was also super friendly and was able to show us lots of animals and impart knowledge about them. An all-round successful day!

Super organized safari tour. Already after booking we received via WhatsApp the time of pickup at the hotel with additional information about car and driver. Our driver Suranga was on time. At Udawalawe National Park the jeep was already waiting for us. We had a private tour alone in the jeep. Our driver Darmasiri from Max Safari Villa drove us through the park, alerted us to the partially hidden animals, stopped long enough so that we could watch and photograph the animals in peace. In particular, he also took care not to disturb the animals. At the end of the tour our taxi with driver Suranga was already waiting for us and brought us back to our accommodation in Weligama. We can absolutely recommend the tour!
