I was left at the Porto train station because nobody knew I’d signed up and paid for the tour

I registered for and paid for this two-day tour on 9/7/25. I received conversation emails and information regarding the pickup. I arrived early, and didn’t see the guide. At 1:01, I used the Viator app’s “contact tour operator” feature to reach out to the tour company. I heard nothing. At 1:19 and 1:33, I tried again. At that point I used the link in the app to contact Viator directly. I was given the direct number for the tour guide, and when I called him, I was informed that his company had no record that I had purchased the tour. I asked the Viator rep multiple times to explain what had happened, and provide me with contact information for the tour company, since they claimed it was the other company’s fault. I was told that they had reached out to the tour guide and received no other information about the third party company, not even their name. I was a woman traveling alone in a country where I did not speak the language. Part of the reason I book tours like this is so there is a record of where I am and when, and somebody knows to look out for me. The miscommunication between Viator and their contracted company took away that safety. Support and communication after the fact has been nonexistent. I still don’t know what happened or how to avoid it in the future, other than never. Ok either way Viator again.

Wonderful and Relaxing Trip

The whole trip was an unforgettable experience. Starting from the views on the train going to Pinhao, the boat ride and the beautiful hotel in the wonderful village of Favios, everything was storybook perfect. Next day was even better! The wine tastings, the authentic dinners and lunches and the warm hospitality of the people makes this trip worth the price and much more. The making of the Moscatel wine was very informative, as was the history of the bread making. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who wants to relax and soak in the ambience of the Douro Valley and learn its history.

Fabuleux

First, you have to find the point of contact at the station. (a gentleman in a black “Douro Best” T-shirt once this man is located... the journey begins, wait to be amazed, a “typical Portuguese” train ride to Pinhão where you will be met by your driver, he will take you to a Rabello for an hour-long cruise on the Douro (what a wonder). Then your driver will take you to your hotel up a hill where nothing seems to exist until the village of Favaios (another wonder) the hotel is 5 star style... a welcome cocktail will be offered and a gourmet dinner in the evening, animated by Mr. George (ultra friendly). After a night in one of the most comfortable hotels I had the pleasure of visiting, a wood guide will take you around Favaios, its splendor, the beautiful grape fields... then a visit to a local mescatel Co-op (they will explain) followed by a tasting, visit the warehouse with the oak barrels... then a gourmet dinner in a local Quinta overlooking the vineyards... then back to port by car (Mercedes van air conditioned). Although we suffered from a lack of specific information at first, we tamed the let go and let ourselves be taken care of... we did not regret it in any way... did ABSOLUTELY!. It's all well worth it

The 2 day tour was...

The 2 day tour was exceptional and we had an amazing weekend. The information that was shared with us of the Favaios wines, bread making, traditional foods, history and culture has that looks pretty goodleft us wanting to come back. The whole package was a wonderful experience and definitely a highlight of our Portuguese travels. The boutique hotel was a hidden gem. The accommodation was very comfortable, the staff were very attentive, and the meals of traditional foods were delicious. The winery experience with a 4 course meal and wine tastings was amazing. We were very well looked after by all involved in this wonderful 2 day total package.
