Bezoek vervolgens het prachtige stadje Panajachel, de populairste bestemming rond het meer van Atitlán. Wandel door de levendige hoofdstraat, verken de haven van de stad en geniet van een prachtig uitzicht op het sprankelende meer en de betoverende vulkanen. We halen reizigers op van hotels in Guatemala City en Antigua Guatemala. De rit van Guatemala City naar Chichicastenango duurt ongeveer 3 uur, afhankelijk van het verkeer. Onderweg kunnen we stops maken voor toiletpauzes, pingebruik, snackaankopen of gewoon om je benen te strekken. Deze historische kerk dateert uit 1540 en is een fascinerende mix van katholieke en Maya tradities, met een uniek religieus syncretisme. Om de ingang te bereiken, beklimt u trappen vol verkopers die wierook, bloemen en kaarsen verkopen – offers voor degenen die komen bidden. Binnen is de lucht gevuld met de geuren van wierook en bloemen, en je zult getuige zijn van gebeden die katholieke rituelen prachtig laten samensmelten met oude Maya gebruiken. Het is een boeiende ervaring en een krachtige manier om geloof te observeren, uitgedrukt in een werkelijk unieke vorm. Mis deze buitengewone culturele en spirituele ontmoeting niet!
Een van de hoogtepunten van een bezoek aan Guatemala is het verkennen van de bruisende openluchtmarkten, gevuld met levendige cultuur en traditie. Terwijl we over de uitgestrekte markt wandelen, vindt u kleurrijk Maya-textiel, handgemaakte souvenirs, zilveren sieraden die uniek zijn voor de regio en ambachtelijke accessoires. Het is een zintuiglijk feest van kleuren, vakmanschap en traditie - een must-see ervaring!
De stad heeft een van de mooiste en kleurrijkste begraafplaatsen ter wereld, met levendige, rijk geschilderde grafstenen in een caleidoscoop van kleuren rondom het pand. Als je geluk hebt, zie je een Maya-ceremonie.
Na het verkennen van Chichicastenango maken we een schilderachtige rit van 1 uur naar Panajachel, de poort naar het Atitlánmeer. Hier bezoeken we de hoofdstraat van de stad en de bruisende aanlegsteiger, waar u kunt genieten van een adembenemend uitzicht op het meer en de majestueuze vulkanen. Lunch is op eigen gelegenheid in een van Panajachel’s vele heerlijke restaurants voordat we teruggaan naar de stad.
Aan het einde van onze prachtige tour brengen we je veilig terug naar je hotel in de stad. U kunt van deze tijd profiteren om te ontspannen of een dutje te doen als u dat wilt.

I booked this tour for my husband and I for our weekend getaway. It was worth every penny. Rubin was AMAZING tour guide. He was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. It was lovely to have a tour guide who is past about what he does. The vehicle was comfortable and clean. The drive was about 3 hours but it went fast because we stopped at a wonderful restaurant for breakfast. Plan for a long day. We left at 7:00 am and didn’t return until 7:00 pm. Chichicastenango was everything we expected and more. Panajachel was beautiful. The only feedback I would give was that I wished we had more time to see Panajachel and the lake. We ate a buffet lunch at a beautiful historic hotel in Chichicastenango. We spent about an hour or so there. I would’ve preferred to skip lunch and head over to Panajachel which was an hour away. We spent 20 minutes in Panajachel which was sad because the town had a lot to offer. With that said, we still enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend this tour. Thanks for the wonderful memories. This was such an amazing excursion , our guide was extremely knowledgeable and let us in on a lot of information that allowed us to understand the culture , the environment, and everything that we came across with that day!😁 He was very funny , bilingual , and interactive 😁 I would highly recommend this excursion to go to the market and to the lake ! 👏🏼👍🤩

WOW! I can not say enough great things about this tour with Carlos as driver and Ruben as guide. Ruben was full of fascinating information and so friendly and kind. The drive to the market was 2 hours but the break was nice and it went by quickly learning about Guatemala. Ruben made the trip so memorable by taking me (I was the only one on the tour) to the best stops and photo ops in Chichicastenango. The drive to the lake was beautiful and although the day was cloudy it was still a beautiful afternoon and delicious lunch. I did a few other tours in Guatemala and this was by far my favorite! This tour was amazing!! My guides, Winston and Astrid, were so nice, knowledgeable, and professional. The drivers were also fantastic. I learned so much about Guatemala and Mayan culture.
