If you’re trying to decide between one of the traditional whale watching boats and this small-group RIB speedboat, I’d choose the RIB every time. We started with Puffin Island, which was worth seeing on its own, before heading into Faxaflói Bay. Whale sightings were initially slow, but our captain made full use of the boat’s speed and stayed in communication with other captains to quickly reposition us when activity picked up. We were rewarded with several humpback whales, playful white-beaked dolphins, and an incredible close encounter when a humpback surfaced just a few meters from the boat. Everything about the operation felt first-class—from the friendly check-in and quality equipment to our outstanding guide, Christina. The suspension seats made the bumpy parts of ride surprisingly comfortable, and I appreciated that everything we needed was included without any upselling. This was a last-minute booking that turned into one of the highlights of my visit to Reykjavík. I would absolutely choose this tour again, and next time I may even come back just for one of provider's dedicated puffin tours.
I almost didn’t book this tour—it was a last-minute addition to my Reykjavík itinerary—but it ended up being one of the highlights of my Iceland trip. I specifically chose the 12-passenger RIB speedboat over one of the larger whale watching boats because I liked the idea of a smaller group, being closer to the water, and the ability to quickly reposition if wildlife was spotted elsewhere. It proved to be the right decision. Check-in was friendly and efficient, all of the cold-weather gear was provided (including a very useful neck gaiter), and the crew even offered complimentary seasickness remedies before departure. Our guide, Christina, was knowledgeable and engaging discussing about Iceland’s marine wildlife. We saw puffins, several humpback whales, playful white-beaked dolphins, and had an unforgettable moment when a humpback surfaced just a few meters from the boat. This was easily the best whale watching tour I’ve experienced. I’d book this tour again without hesitation.
WOW. We seriously wouldn’t have wanted to see the whales any other way! We kept seeing the larger boats further away while we were incredibly close to the whales—it was unbelievable. Watching these massive animals surface so close to us was something we’ll never forget. Our guide was just as excited every time we spotted a whale or dolphin, and that energy made the whole experience even more fun. You could tell they genuinely loved what they do! The boat was amazing, and the insulated suits they provided kept us warm and comfortable the entire time. If you’re even slightly on the fence or trying to choose between whale watching companies, BOOK THIS ONE. Seriously—you will not regret it. The smaller group made such a huge difference, and being able to get so close to the whales felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Without a doubt, this was one of the absolute highlights of our trip!
This is an incredible way to see whales! You are able to get so much closer than a regular boat. We were actually splashed by the whales! We saw multiple humpbacks and a few minke. It is very rocky and one of us got very sick over the side of the boat. The captain was very nice about it. We did see lots of puffins as well!
This was an amazing experience. We really had great weather and got to see all 4 types of whales in the harbor. Celena was a great guide..and our captain Ollie was great!!! Definitely would do again!!
Great experience, saw a lot of whales up close, small boat is definitely the way to do this type of excursion.
My family saw many whales, and the puffins were a great addition to the sightseeing. The best part (for my teenage kids) was the boat itself. The RIB boat was really fast yet comfortable. Our guide (Selena) was very helpful in spotting the whales for us.
Great 2-hour experience! We saw 3 humpback whales and a minky, plus several dolphins and a bunch of puffins! Christine was our guide and she was knowledgeable and wonderful. I got seasick (not my first time—I should have known better), but the experience was unforgettable.
Amazing chance to see whales. We saw 3 humpback, a minke, and several dolphins. The last 15 minutes before returning we saw a humpback and dolphins interacting. Yoda and Cristina did a great job.
Out of this world! I've been on wildlife tours before, but this was something truly special. We joined the Speedboat Whale Watching Small-Group Tour in Reykjavík and were fortunate to have Alessandro (Alex) and Captain Ollie leading the experience. Alex was exceptional, not only sharing fascinating information about the puffins, whales, and local environment, but also working tirelessly to position us in the best possible locations for sightings. What followed felt almost unreal. We saw puffins and at least five humpback whales. The highlight was spending nearly half an hour with three humpbacks that lingered calmly near our boat, surfacing again and again as if they were putting on a private show. Even the guides on neighbouring boats seemed astonished by how rare and fortunate the encounter was. The combination of Alex's knowledge, Captain Ollie's skill, and an unforgettable day on the water made this one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. If you're considering a whale-watching excursion, don't hesitate as this experience exceeded every expectation.
