It was an incredible experience. I really began to understand why sumo holds such a special place in Japanese culture and why it’s considered such a unique sport. The atmosphere during the training session was intense and felt almost sacred. The local staff were also very polite, and their explanations were incredibly easy to follow. Seeing the wrestlers in person, I was struck by how big and powerful they were. It’s something I’ll never forget. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to experience authentic Japanese culture.
What I strongly felt after participating this time was that this is not just a tourist event, but a truly precious opportunity to experience the world of sumo, which has been passed down through generations, up close. While I've seen sumo on television and in photographs, the experience of actually witnessing the morning practice in the same space was completely different. The sound of the wrestlers colliding, the tense atmosphere, the palpable tension in the training hall, the seriousness in every movement—I was overwhelmed by all of it. Because it wasn't a flashy performance, but rather a direct experience of the training that is built up day by day, it left a deeper impression on me. What was particularly impressive was realizing that sumo is not just a "sport to watch," but a culture built on etiquette, discipline, and spirituality. The practice performed before my eyes was efficient and without waste; there was a strictness in the silence, and a tension that was conveyed without words, making me feel like I was standing taller just by being there. It was not just an enjoyable tourist experience, but I think it was an experience that made me appreciate the depth of Japanese culture and the value of experiencing something authentic. Even those unfamiliar with sumo wrestling will surely change their perspective after experiencing this atmosphere firsthand. I highly recommend this experience not only to visitors to Japan, but also to those living here. It was a truly special and memorable time, something you can only experience here.
