Went here on the recommendation of my daughter, who said it was her favourite place she had visited in the city. Beautifully designed buildings that were part of a much larger complex some of which were demolished to make way for the new hospital. The insides of some of the pavilions are accessible and tell the story of the hospital and its uses over the years. Well worth a visit for the architecture alone, but if you can take the time to follow the storyboards to read how the originator of the hospital brought all the best practices from around the world to this place at a time when the world was going g through many conflicts.
Absolutely stunning place, outstanding architecture and history, a must see for anyone visiting Barcelona, i have no words good enough to describe this beautiful place. Great location, Metro not too far, and you can see the Familia Sagrada out the window to save you the bother of visiting it. Make sure yiu.look up as the ceilings are world class.
No crowds and beautiful architecture! Interesting to see work from Montaner, a contemporary/mentor of Gaudi in the Catalan Modernisme movement combined with practical uses. Very nice exhibits and inspiring mosaics. Explore the large campus at your leisure.
This self-guided tour of a UNESCO world heritage hospital pavilion site was an unexpected gem added at the last minute. Educational, unique, worth it!
Most tourists flock to Gaudí's masterpieces (and rightfully so), but please do not skip Hospital Sant Pau. It is every bit as breathtaking and far less crowded. This is Modernista architecture at its most grand and serene. Designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the complex feels more like a peaceful garden village than a hospital. Pavilions are connected by underground passageways, with colorful mosaics, intricate brickwork, stained glass, and wrought iron details everywhere you look. The main administrative building is a showstopper – the dome alone is worth the visit. Because it doesn't get the same attention as Sagrada Familia or La Pedrera, you can actually explore without being swept along by crowds. We had entire pavilions nearly to ourselves. Allow at least 1.5 to 2 hours to wander the grounds and the underground tunnels. The audio guide is excellent and helps you appreciate the visionary thinking behind this UNESCO World Heritage site. A true jewel of Barcelona. Highly recommended for anyone who loves architecture, history, or simply a peaceful escape from the busy city center. Bonus: we visited on the first Sunday of the month and it was free (at least, for retired people). You can get the free tickets online (don't select the audioguide as in that case, it does not show the retired option).
Well worth the hour you'll need to do a self-guided tour. You can do headphones or not. There's written information and explanation along the way. This is a true hidden gem of Barcelona.
These buildings are amazing! I believe there are 10 buildings total but only 3 or 4 are open to the public. They have exhibits in each of the open ones explaining how it was built, what the different buildings were used for and medical instruments. It was very.interesting and informative. If you are interested in Gaudi architecture, do not miss this!
Former hospital beautifully restored. Very beautiful garden. A lovely discovery. Interesting audio guide A little bit expensive tour
An audio guide might give a better experience, but the building exteriors were gorgeous and it was a peaceful place to relax in the courtyards and patios. Lots of chairs.
I didn't get the ticket. But if the Bank charged me the four tickets for the SantPau....how do I rescue my tickets?do not appear in the application or on the web......
