Een museum waar je kunt nadenken, leren kijken, ideeën uitwisselen, mensen ontmoeten en er even helemaal tussenuit kunt zijn! Wandel door een unieke architectonische omgeving, van de 13e-eeuwse kloostergang van het Unterlindenklooster tot het nieuwe hedendaagse gebouw van architecten Herzog & de Meuron, via de voormalige Art Deco gemeentelijke baden uit het begin van de 20e eeuw. Ontdek onderweg de verrassende archeologische collecties, de aantrekkelijke schilderijen en beeldhouwwerken, waar je Martin Schongauer, Claude Monnet, Pablo Picasso... tegenkomt, de oogverblindende decoratieve kunsten, de verbazingwekkende volkskunsten en tradities... En het niet te missen altaarstuk van Issenheim (1512-1516). Het team van het museum verwelkomt je en begeleidt je tijdens je bezoek, individueel of met een gids, of je nu alleen bent, met je familie of met vrienden. Voor een half uur of een halve dag is het Musée Unterlinden van jou. Laatste toegang 30 minuten voor sluitingstijd van het museum.

Het Unterlinden Museum, beroemd om zijn meesterwerk, het altaarstuk van Issenheim, opende officieel zijn deuren in 1853. Vandaag de dag biedt het Musée Unterlinden zijn vele bezoekers dialoog en kennis, emotie en plezier. Het biedt een rondleiding door bijna 7000 jaar geschiedenis, van de prehistorie tot kunst uit de 21e eeuw. Deze reis door de tijd onthult de vele facetten van de architectuur van het museum, verenigd en vergroot door de herontwikkeling en uitbreiding door architecten Herzog & de Meuron, voltooid in 2015. Als bezoekers de zalen van het voormalige 13e-eeuwse klooster, de voormalige gemeentelijke baden die in 1906 in gebruik werden genomen en de hedendaagse ruimtes die in 2015 werden gebouwd, evenals de collecties van het museum verkennen, kunnen ze de opeenvolgende fasen van een geschiedenis van meer dan 170 jaar zien. De muren en kunstwerken getuigen van het dynamische werk van de Schongauer Society, de vereniging die het Musée Unterlinden sinds 1853 beheert en beheert.

Isenheim Altar: The picture panels are presented very beautifully. Not too crowded around noon, time for a long contemplation of the individual panels. The painting collection - less captivating.
Excellent museum with artwork extremely well restored (in some cases) and displayed. The Isenheim altarpiece is truly sensacional.
I am not usually a fan of early to late Medieval art, but this museum did it well. Lots of paintings and sculptures preserved. The altarpiece was quite incredible. This museum is what put Colmar on the tourist map.
The Unterlinden Museum in Colmar offers a great journey between ancient and modern art, with works of great value that are well exhibited. Very nice also the archaeological section. The must-see is the 16th-century Issenheim Altarpiece by the master Matthias Grünewald, but it is the whole museum that deserves to be visited calmly, especially since inside there is a cafe-bistro that allows visitors to refresh themselves with drinks and food. The museum shop is also nice. Take the right time, do not miss it! It will not be hours spent in vain, quite the contrary!
Very nice and large museum located near the city center of Colmar. In particular, you can admire many works including the Issenheim altarpiece or an Alsatian cellar.
We discovered a great museum that offers a beautiful collection of works from Prehistory to the present day. We were particularly impressed by the possession of a Renoir, a Monet, a Bonnard, some Picassos and Dubuffet! The museum also has a tapestry of Guernica commissioned by Picasso himself, the other two of which are exhibited in Japan and at the UN (!). The Issenheim Altarpiece is the centrepiece of the museum. On the other hand, some rooms are quite poorly indicated. The spiral staircase to the more contemporary floors is sublime!
This is a very high quality museum. You will find masterpieces, culminating in Isenheimer Altar. You experience that Harry Potter is inspired by this. There are also top pieces by Picasso. You must have seen this
We had read positively about the museum and thought that we had to see when we stayed here in Colmar. The buildings which is an old monastery are very charming and beautifully restored. But it takes patience to find around the museum as they are located in several buildings and up to 2 farms so you get a little “roundtossed”. We started by seeing the Altertavlen and the chapel which is the main attraction. Very nice and stunning. We spent a long time in the chapel walking around and sucking all the impressions. It would have been nice if there was more written material in the room in English. We found after a little time the restaurant and ate lunch there,which was nice and affordable. After lunch we went around the rest of the museum but eventually we were a little tired of all the levels and the different buildings. The signage is not very good and many went questioning around. Most could be explained better!
Disappointed! Holder of a PMR card I had to fight to have a free companion supposedly saying I needed a "card accompanying" what does not exist!! The person at the till was very protocol and not kind. We had guided audio but nothing was in order at the museum. A mess! Too bad because the works and the place are splendid
An excellent time in a museum with a wealth of incredible collections. Of course, there is the famous altarpiece but we discover many interesting objects, statues, paintings. Only the signage would benefit from being clearer because the route is not obvious
