Het Tijuca-woud is een van de grootste natuurlijke schatten van de stad Rio de Janeiro. Gebouwd in het begin van de twintigste eeuw ter ere van de Chinese en geïmporteerde theeteelt in Brazilië, biedt het monument van Vista Chinesa een breed panorama vol groen van de zuidelijke zone van Rio. Het pad is gemakkelijk bereikbaar en is volledig geasfalteerd, wat leidt tot het uitkijken op een veeleisende, steile klim, maar het loont met een van de mooiste bergtoppen in de stad!
Vanaf 1856 was de botanische tuin verbonden met Alto de Boa Vista via een vrijdragende weg, geopend door de invloed van Baron van Bom Retiro en wiens uitvoering en onderhoud was opgedragen aan Thomas Cochrane. Het registreert de kroniek van de tijd dat arbeiders in dit werk 'cules' trokken die uit China (Macau) waren meegebracht om de rijstoogst te ontwikkelen, maar die, na te hebben aangetoond dat ze niet in staat waren om te landbouwen, werden gebruikt om de weg te bouwen. Deze regio presenteert een verbazingwekkend toeval van Chinese aanwezigheid, begonnen met de komst van de theeplanters van D. João VI. Na het falen van dit gewas, volgens Brazil Gerson, zouden de Chinezen zich "door de luiers van Tijuca" hebben verspreid. In 1844 registreert een kaart van het gebied een gebouw genaamd "Casa dos Chinas", waarschijnlijk een overblijfsel van deze primitieve ervaring. Deze "roeping" verklaart waarschijnlijk waarom het stadhuis (burgemeester Pereira Passos, in 1903, met een project van de architect Luis Rey, in mortel die de bamboe kopieerde) een paar jaar later een paviljoen bouwde genaamd "Vista Chinesa", dat nog steeds kan bezocht worden. Hierboven kreeg een plaats die was ingericht om te dienen als een rustplaats op de frequente wandelingen van de koninklijke familie de naam tafel van de keizer.
In 1860 kreeg ingenieur Job de Alcântara de opdracht van de keizerlijke regering om de prachtige stenen brug te bouwen, in het Romeinse gewelf, die voor de Taunay Cascatinha staat. De hoogste PNT-waterval wordt gevormd door de val van de wateren van de rivier de Tijuca, de rivier de Conde en andere zijrivieren. In 1817 bouwde de kunstenaar Nicolas Antoine Taunay een klein huis in de buurt van de cascatinha en betoverende, vereeuwigde de schoonheid van de waterval in zijn foto's. Hij werd de grote gastheer van het bos en organiseerde bijeenkomsten voor de rechtbank. Het huis van Taunay werd in 1946 gesloopt. Op de site werd het oude Cascatinha-restaurant gebouwd, dat momenteel wordt klaargemaakt en opnieuw ingericht om een café en een nieuw restaurant te huisvesten.
Parque Lage ligt in de wijk Jardim Botânico, in het zuiden van Rio de Janeiro, vlakbij bezienswaardigheden als de Jardim Botânico en de Cristo Redentor. Met een oppervlakte van 52 hectare bos, wordt de ruimte omringd door het Atlantische Woud en maakt deel uit van het Tijuca National Park.

A great spot for an quiet view of Rio. So many places in Rio to visit, this one is a bit of a hidden gem, worth the visit. Really enjoyed my time in Rio, one of the nicest and most interesting cities I have visited! Will return

The tour Tijuca Forest we visit the National Tijuca Forest by jeep, vista Chinese and Cascatinha Taunay Waterfall the guide Rafael Robaina very knowledgeable of history and driver Euclides the best driver even up and down those curves road was amazing outstanding and very knowledgeable of history and safe was first doing this trip. I highly recommend this tour. Just we had time to drip in water but weather was so good to take a drip. But tour was amazing. The church areas is higher than the Sugarloaf point. We Love it.
There is no zero stars allowed. We have used Viator a lot across the world and this is the first time that the tour operator did not turn up, message us or acknowledge our messages. I hope that all is well but my advice is simple - DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR OR USE THIS OPERATOR! This spoilt our last day in Rio.
First all I am sorry for this inconvinience. I never had this problem in 10 years of work. I believe you have booked the tour for all 5 stars reviews you have read. Unfornatelly I had a problem with our google calendar that have changed your tour for other date, instead of the right one. It never happened before and We made changes in our system working now with two calendars. it is important mention that after explain you what happened by message we fastly have Refunded your money back. The tour was great. First a trip to Palácio - Parque Lage. Great place for photos with Christ the redeemer on the mountain behind. Then on to Tijuca Forest. Great waterfalls and wildlife. Best of all Ederson was great guide. Engaging and enthusiastic. He had great knowledge of the area and history. He was brilliant at ensuring we got the most from the tour and keen to notice what we were interested in and adapt to our needs. Would highly recommend Ederson - he made the tour great.

Great tour, Ederson made sure to show us all the parts of the rainforest and made sure we were comfortable! We got to see an extra waterfall that wasn’t on the original list. Highly recommend!

So move on! When I see the other comments they must have gone through an excellent guide because we saw nothing of what the others showed in the comments. We saw a waterfall and a view and were shown around a dilapidated building that supposedly is a museum. Don't waste your time!
My husband and I loved this 1/2 day tour. He was so knowledgeable and let us spend as much time as we wanted at each spot thru the Tijuca Forest. The highlights were Parque Lage ( he walked us through the awesome forest & had a drink in the gorgeous old mansion) , the Chinese lookout had the most amazing view and we got to watch about 20 monkeys swinging thru the trees, Emperor's lookout, and the Cascatinha waterfall were all so beautiful!! Our tour guide was such a great guy, we had a blast!!! 😊

This was a great trip. Ederson was a brilliant guide. Very knowledgeable and very pleasant. We visited all the main spots in Tijuca and also went to Parque Lage. Was lucky to see some Toucans as well. Highly recommend this tour and this company.
