De traditie van waterpoppentheater stamt uit een tijd waarin rijstvelden onder water stonden en dorpelingen vermaakten door in het middeldiepe water te gaan staan terwijl de poppen boven het water optraden. Met behulp van grote staven om de poppen te ondersteunen, leek het alsof ze over het water bewogen met de poppenspelers verborgen achter een scherm. Deze traditie is uniek voor Noord-Vietnam, maar heeft onlangs bekendheid gekregen op podia over de hele wereld; dus het is een zeldzame traktatie om de poppen te zien optreden op hun oorspronkelijke locatie in het Dragon Water Puppet Theatre. De optredens worden begeleid door een Vietnamees orkest dat traditionele muziek speelt met trommels, houten bellen, hoorns, bamboefluiten en cimbalen. Er zijn ook authentieke Vietnamese operaliedjes die het verhaal vertellen dat door de poppen wordt gespeeld. De meeste shows vertellen Vietnamese volksverhalen en legendes met onderwerpen als de viering van de rijstoogst op een humoristische manier afgebeeld.

The show was great. Tickets only purchased by rep at 6:10 putting us near back. Buy yourself on the day.

Great communication from the trip operator and the lady who dropped off the tickets for us . Unfortunately we were in the second row from the back of the theatre (of at least 20 rows) which made viewing difficult . I would check where the seats are before booking as we were disappointed. Having said that the production was excellent .

This is a great show especially if you're a history buff . Very traditional and great place for a Date or even with a family. The neighborhood is lively
