Het bezoek begint op Piazza Vittorio Veneto, een prachtig negentiende-eeuws plein vanwaar je een panoramisch uitzicht hebt over de Civita en de Sasso Barisano. We gaan door de smalle straatjes van het centrum en bewonderen werken van artistiek en architectonisch belang tot aan de imposante belvedère van Piazza Duomo met uitzicht op de Sasso Barisano. We gaan verder tussen de trappen van de Sassi totdat we enkele grotkerken, een typisch ingerichte grotwoning en een historische kelder bereiken.

We did the walking tour through the Sassi of Matera with the guide Giuseppe and it was very interesting. Details and stories were told to us that we would never have known if we had done the tour on our own. The visit to the rock churches was very interesting.
we participated with interest in the stories of the guide Giuseppe..over 2 hours spent among the Sassi admiring stories and curiosities..I recommend it.
A complete visit that allowed us to authentically immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the Sassi of Matera. Giuseppe was truly great, helpful, with a personal touch of life lived right among the Sassi since he was a child.
We went on 2 excursions with them, both in the Sassi and in the Murgia; the 2 guides Bruna and Raffaele were very knowledgeable about life in the Sassi, and explained the daily life of the Sassi very well; a special mention for Michele the scout, an exquisite and very easygoing person.

The guide VITO was excellent, and despite the difficulties of climbing up and down the streets of Matera and the heat... he was also able to lighten the mood with small jokes and anecdotes.
