Geïnspireerd door onze liefde voor de stad, lekker eten en nieuwe mensen ontmoeten. Tijdens deze heerlijkste tour krijg je de kans om het BESTE lokale eten van de BESTE verkopers te proberen. Geniet van overheerlijke souvlaki, smakelijke en verse huisgemaakte taarten, verrukkelijke olijven, PDO-kazen (beschermde oorsprongsbenamingen), Griekse yoghurt, lokale vleeswaren, unieke desserts en nog veel meer... laten we niet al het plezier bederven! We slenteren door de straten van het stadscentrum van Athene terwijl we traditionele Griekse straatvoedselverkopers bezoeken; echte Atheense iconen, familiebedrijven met meerdere generaties en nieuwe lovenswaardige voedselondernemers. We geloven echt dat onze samengestelde ervaring een van de beste dingen is om te doen op je eerste dag in Athene. Het is een fantastische manier om je te oriënteren, leuke weetjes en verhalen te leren over Griekenland en Athene en zijn cultuur, en om aanbevelingen en tips voor je verblijf te krijgen.

We slenteren door de straten van het stadscentrum van Athene terwijl we traditionele Griekse straatvoedselverkopers bezoeken; echte Atheense iconen, familiebedrijven met meerdere generaties en nieuwe lovenswaardige voedselondernemers. Voorbeeldmenu Zoete en hartige taarten die je nooit zult vergeten (d.w.z. Kaastaart, Spinazietaart) Koulouri (geroosterde sesambroodring) - Griekenland's favoriete ontbijt op de vlucht. dit ronde brood zit boordevol goede koolhydraten en eiwitten. Het Mitropoleosplein is een van de meest charmante pleinen in het historische centrum van Athene, op slechts een paar minuten lopen van het Syntagmaplein en de wijk Plaka. Het plein wordt gedomineerd door de indrukwekkende Metropolitan Cathedral van Athene (ook bekend als de Cathedral of the Annunciation), de grootste kerk van Athene en de zetel van de aartsbisschop van Griekenland. Direct naast de kathedraal staat de veel kleinere maar even fascinerende Kleine Metropool (Kerk van Agios Eleftherios), een 12e-eeuwse Byzantijnse kerk die bekend staat om zijn ingewikkelde steenhouwwerk en architectonische details. Het contrast tussen de grandeur van de Metropolitan Cathedral en de intieme schaal van de Kleine Metropool illustreert prachtig de lagen van de Atheense geschiedenis, van de Byzantijnse tijd tot het moderne Griekenland. Vandaag de dag is het Mitropoleosplein een levendig ontmoetingspunt, omringd door cafés, winkels en voetgangersstraten, waardoor het een ideale plek is om te pauzeren tijdens het verkennen van het centrum van Athene.
Dit prachtige en levendige plein was vroeger de thuisbasis van de bloemenmarkt van de stad. Er zijn nog maar een paar bloemenverkopers over, terwijl de rest is vervangen door café's en eetgelegenheden, waardoor het een van de populairste plekken in de stad is geworden. Gemakkelijk te bereiken, waar je ook vandaan komt, op zichzelf staand en vredig, zonder hinderlijk doorgaand verkeer, bruist het bloeiende plein de meeste uren van de dag van het leven. We zullen genieten van een bijzondere delicatesse uit Kreta, een taart als geen ander. Het heet Sfakiani en is zo dun als crêpe met zachte kaas erin en honing bovenop! Voorbeeldmenu: Rakomelo: Deze beroemde alcoholische mixdrank wordt gemaakt door Raki (een cognac met druivensmaak) te combineren met honing en warme kruiden zoals kardemom, kaneel en lokale kruiden.
Voorbeeldmenu: Het ultieme Griekse streetfood-dessert: Loukoumades, ook wel "honingsoesjes" genoemd, al 100 jaar op de beste plek. De Aiolou-straat is een historische centrale verharde weg die het Omonia-plein verbindt met de Ermou-straat. De naam is afgeleid van de oude Griekse god van de wind, Aeolus. De Aiolou-straat, gebouwd in 1833, is een van de oudste straten in Athene.
Bezoek de levendige open vis- en vleesmarkt van de stad! Voorbeeldmenu: Souvlaki, ons nationale streetfood. Er zijn honderden Souvlaki-plaatsen, maar een handvol echt goede. We nemen je mee voor een van de lekkerste, meest authentieke en geprezen!
Voorbeeldmenu: BOB (Beschermde Bestemming van Oorsprong) Griekse kazen, unieke vleeswaren zoals pastourma en Tsipouro. Mekka van de specerijen- en kruidenwinkels van Athene. Kleine familiebedrijven zijn al tientallen jaren de levensader van deze straat, waardoor het de eerste halte is van elke Athener die geïnteresseerd is in eten. BOB (Beschermde Bestemming van Oorsprong) Griekse kazen en unieke vleeswaren. Tsipouro, een populaire gedistilleerde drank uit druiven, puur gemaakt of geparfumeerd met anijs. Het wordt geserveerd als welkom voor gasten, als begeleiding bij meze of als brandstof voor het lachen tussen oude vrienden in cafés in heel Griekenland.
Psyri of Psiri staat centraal, trendy & onconventioneel! Het is een kleurrijke neoklassieke buurt die bekend staat om zijn ambachtslieden, speciaalzaken, restaurants, bars, taverna's (met of zonder livemuziek), theaters, kunst- en antiekwinkels, evenals een klein aantal hotels.
Voorbeeldmenu: Griekse honingproeverij. 3 verschillende heerlijke varianten. Het Kotzia-plein wordt omgeven door prachtige neoklassieke gebouwen, waaronder het oude stadhuis. hier is ook een kleine archeologische vindplaats (waar je het watervoorzieningssysteem van de stad kunt zien dat teruggaat tot 2000 jaar geleden) die onlangs aan het licht is gekomen na de opgravingen voor de ondergrondse parkeergarage.
Gelegen in de schaduw van de Akropolis, is de wijk Monastiraki een mix van bouwstijlen, tijdperken en culturen, grenzend aan de districten Psyri, Plaka en Thisio. Het Monastiraki-plein is een van de meest betoverende pleinen in Athene, de thuisbasis van restaurants, cafés, winkels, de beroemde vlooienmarkt en veel oude geschiedenis. Op het plein kun je de verzonken kerk van Pantanassa bewonderen, het enige overgebleven deel van het klooster (of beter gezegd nonnenklooster) dat tijdens de Byzantijnse periode ter plaatse stond en het gebied zijn naam gaf (Monastiraki betekent klein klooster). Maar voor velen is Monastiraki vooral synoniem met antiek en oude schatten dankzij de vlooienmarkten en antiekwinkels die in de buurt van het Abyssinia-plein te vinden zijn.

What a fantastic food tour. We went to several places but never felt like it was too much or too little. Eva taught us about each bite and the history of the recipes as well as how locals cook these staple items. Eva made this tour everything we hoped it could be - walking, history, culture, understanding and food as part culture. We had high expectations for this tour based on reviews and those were exceeded by the places we visited, but mostly because of Eva. She has that extra something special that makes it feel like you are learning about each neighborhood and food with a friend. Will be recommending this tour to anyone we know going to Athens!
We took a food tour with Valentini in August of 2026. We had a wonderful time and visited venues that we would not have found on our own; we learnt so much about culture and history and food! Valentini has a passion for great quality food, and she knows where to find the best and most authentic vendors. I really appreciated how woderfully balanced the tour was. I felt engaged, entertained, but also relaxed. Walking and sitting and sampling food (with access to facilities) was tailored to our needs and abilities, so we never felt tired. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens.

Cannot recommend this tour enough. It was our favorite during a two week trip to Greece, and maybe our favorite ever. You will not only learn about the food (also receive detailed information shared later via email), you also hear about the traditions, history, etc. Katarina was an absolute pleasure to be with and was proactive about a food allergy, including bringing alternative options at every stop. Vanna (Val) gave a FANTASTIC 5 Star tour. It was not only an incredible food tour but also a tour through Greek history, culture and architecture! For me the highlights included tastings of halva in a store selling all natural Halva (and other products) in many different flavors; seeing and learning how authentic Greek coffee is made, Olive oil tasting and explanation about the types of olive oil and of course souvlaki at the best soulvlaki restaurant in Athens (Really!) complete with an explanation of the history of souvlaki and how it is prepared. We arrived to Athens at 11:30 AM after an overnight flight. This food tour was the best activity to kick off our two night stay. Our hotel room was not ready and this was the perfect way to spend the afternoon tasting delicious Greek food and learning about the culture. Highly recommend Valentini as a guide, she was wonderful.
