Beschrijving
Fram is het beroemdste houten poolvaartuig ter wereld, en een symbool voor de aanzienlijke deelname van Noorwegen aan de heldhaftige tijd van expedities. Het pronkstuk van het museum is 's werelds sterkste houten schip, het poolschip de Fram. Het publiek kan aan boord gaan en een kijkje nemen in de hutten, lounges, de laadruimte en de machinekamer.

De hoofdtentoonstelling in het Fram-gebouw heeft verklarende teksten in tien talen en beschrijft de drie grote Fram-expedities. In juni 2013 hebben we ons nieuwe Gjøa-gebouw ingehuldigd, dat via een ondergrondse tunnel met de Fram is verbonden. Het middelpunt hier is Gjøa, het eerste schip dat de hele Noordwestpassage doorkruist. Er zijn gloednieuwe historische tentoonstellingen over de expedities van Gjøa en Maud, van de vliegtuigen N24 en N25 en van het luchtschip Norge, de legendarische expeditie van John Franklin en die van Henry Larsen en Eivind Astrup. We presenteren ook actuele problemen waarmee het Hoge Noorden te maken heeft, zoals ijsberen, smelten van ijs, gas en olie, enz. Er is een bioscoop met 116 zitplaatsen die elk kwartier een introductiefilm van de pool laat zien.

A rich museum with many things to discover; Good both for childrens and adults.
Great experience. We took the busses from the cruise port. Had to ask locals though which ones to catch as it involved 3 bus switches. Once there, the museum was amazing. You can actually walk on pieces reconstructed of the Fram. This was the best part. Be sure to catch the first excursion on the side museum, too. Would totally recommend when in Oslo.
We really enjoyed this museum…so informative and presented in an interesting way.
We truly enjoyed this particular exhibit. The only possible negative point I can give it is a fact that there was a lot of people from the cruise ships so it was a bit crowded to get around. It is interesting to know that there is a water taxi that will take you from the main area of oslo to this museum instead of having to take a taxi as we did. It Is very well done.Everything is very well explained.I recommend people to go with particular idea that they want to look into instead of just spending hours reading all of the panels on the wall. My husband was interested in the boat and the expedition part of it.I wanted to hear and see about the animals and the people they encountered. If you just wonder in it might take you 3 hours to read everything.Because it's so intense and well explained. There is much to entertain, and also, it is very fun for the kids !
A real museum that retraces the history of the ship inside the ship itself, which is entirely explorable. Engaging multimedia reconstructions, smells, noises, everything takes you on board with the explorers. If we want to find a flaw, it would be better to have a quota on the number of people. Highly recommended among the things to do in Oslo
Really great museum, well worth the visit
The huge ship, the mass of old photos and what remains from Nansen's and other explorers hazardous travels were overwhelming.
Very beautiful presentation; it is very rare to be able to visit a boat of this size and, what's more, in French. However, you have to read a lot... allow for at least 3 hours if you want to read everything...
It is a special museum because in the middle of the museum is displayed the ship with which one went on an expedition. A lot of information on the boards and also the weather influences (storm, rain) that were projected above the ship, made it a special experience. Be prepared (especially in summer) for a warm, stuffy space. You also smelled 'exhaust gas' which was even worse below deck. But absolutely recommended. You can easily spend a few hours there!
