De "Klassieke" Nationaal Park Tour
Beschrijving
Deze reis begint wanneer we ophalen op onze locatie in Gatlinburg, TN. We reizen in comfortabele en milieuvriendelijke busjes naar onze eerste stop bij de overblijfselen van een lang vervlogen vakantieoord dat meer dan 100 jaar oud is. We komen meer te weten over de geschiedenis van de houtkap in de Smokies, het leven van de vroege Appalachian-pioniers en de oprichting van het nationale park. Vanaf hier reizen we de bergen op over een van de mooiste wegen in het zuidoosten. Onderweg stoppen we bij schilderachtige uitkijkpunten voor foto's, vragen en interpretatie van het gebied. Eindelijk komen we aan bij Newfound Gap en de 5000 voet hoge grens tussen Tennessee en North Carolina. Hier zullen we meer te weten komen over de 2200 mijl lange Appalachian Trail en de plek waar president Franklin Roosevelt in 1940 het park inwijdde.

We krijgen de kans om een van de machtigste rivieren in Great Smoky Mountains National Park te verkennen terwijl we leren over de geschiedenis van de oprichting van het park en hoe het leven van houthakkers, CCC-werkers, pioniersboeren en de vroegste bergrecreatieve bezoekers elkaar kruisten.
Newfound Gap Road is een van de mooiste autoroutes in het zuidoosten. We maken de 21 kilometer lange rit uit de Sugarlands Valley terwijl we meer te weten komen over de mensen, planten, dieren en geschiedenis van de Great Smoky Mountains. Onderweg stoppen we bij verschillende schilderachtige uitkijkpunten voor foto's van de torenhoge bergen en donkere, schaduwrijke valleien.
Diep in de bergen op een hoogte van meer dan 5000 voet staan we op de staatsgrens terwijl we uitkijken over de Sugarland Valley in het noorden en de Oconaluftee Valley in het zuiden. De beroemde 2200 mijl lange Appalachian Trail loopt door dit punt naast het stenen podium waar president Franklin Roosevelt de inwijding van het Great Smoky Mountain National Park gaf.

We had an absolutely fantastic Smoky Mountains tour with our guide, Kindel. Her knowledge of the Smokies was incredible, and her genuine enthusiasm for the area made the whole experience so enjoyable. We learned so much about the mountains, wildlife, history and local area along the way. The vehicle was spotlessly clean, comfortable and perfect for exploring the mountains. Kindel was friendly, engaging and happy to answer all of our questions. This was genuinely one of the highlights of our entire Tennessee trip and we would highly recommend the tour — especially with Kindel as your guide!
Rick was our tour guide and he did a great job. He was not only knowledgeable but accommodating and had a great personality. He is from the area and had some interesting history. I highly recommend this tour.

We really enjoyed this tour and guide. Because we are not from the area and first time seeing the smoky mountains, we selected this tour with a guide and are very pleased. Jay/tour guide was exceptional. He texted a day before with meet point details and his number. Lucky for us, we got to enjoy the tour with only Jay. Jay was very professional, courteous, kind, knowledgeable, and witty. He took us to many sites that we would not have known to see and educated us on the history of some events. Well worth taking and experiencing.
