Verken het beroemde concentratiekamp Terezín tijdens een rondleiding van een halve dag die begint in het hart van Praag, voor het Rudolfinum-gebouw. Tijdens de busrit kunt u luisteren naar een audio Gids op uw telefoon die u laat kennismaken met de geschiedenis van de Tsjechische landen, de geschiedenis van het Joodse volk in het land en de geschiedenis van de stad Terezín. In het kleine fort van Terezín neemt u deel aan een Gids d wandeling onder leiding van een lokale gids in de taal van uw keuze. Verken het voormalige concentratiekamp en de kazerne terwijl je leert hoe deze voormalige garnizoensstad werd omgetoverd tot een kamp. Ontdek hoe Terezín drastisch veranderde toen de nazi's het Theresienstadt noemden en er in november 1941 de eerste Joodse transporten naartoe stuurden. Ontmoet je gids voor de hoofdingang naar het Rudolfinum-gebouw, Alšovo nábř. 12, 110 00 Josefov. De gids houdt een blauw-witte paraplu vast. Vanaf hier neemt u een minibus naar Terezín, wat ongeveer 1 uur duurt.
De minibus brengt je naar Terezín. Terezin ligt ongeveer negentig mijl ten noorden van Praag en net ten zuiden van Litomerice. De stad werd oorspronkelijk gebouwd in 1780 door keizer Joseph II van Oostenrijk en vernoemd naar zijn moeder, keizerin Maria Theresa.
Terezin bestond uit de Grote Vesting en de Kleine Vesting. The Big Fortress werd omringd door wallen en bevatte kazernes. Terezin was echter sinds 1888 niet meer als fort gebruikt; Terezin was een garnizoensstad geworden die vrijwel hetzelfde was gebleven, bijna volledig gescheiden van de rest van het platteland. Het kleine fort werd gebruikt als gevangenis voor gevaarlijke criminelen. Terezin veranderde drastisch toen de nazi's het tot Theresienstadt hernoemden en er in november 1941 de eerste Joodse transporten naartoe stuurden. De nazi's stuurden ongeveer 1300 Joodse mannen op twee transporten naar Theresienstadt. Deze arbeiders vormden het Aufbaukommando, later in het kamp bekend als AK1 en AK2. Deze mannen werden gestuurd om de garnizoensstad om te vormen tot een kamp voor joden. Het grootste en meest ernstige probleem waarmee deze werkgroepen werden geconfronteerd, was de metamorfose van een stad die in 1940 ongeveer 7.000 inwoners vasthield, in een concentratiekamp dat ongeveer 35.000 tot 60.000 mensen moest bevatten.
De minibus brengt je terug naar Praag nadat je Terezín hebt verkend.

Excellent tour, and well worth making the trip. The guides were knowledgeable, terrific and provided details as expected. The driver was excellent! We really appreciated the smaller size tour, and the van was comfortable. The time was sufficient. The team was responsive when I notified them about the meeting place and when I thought we would arrive late. Note, The Terizin site memorial grounds- there was uneven ground, rocks and stairs for those with mobility difficulties. Overall excellent tour.

We did not have a lot of time but liked that this tour provided a half-day afternoon option. Our guide Zora was exceptional and knowledgable, bringing the history to life. The only downside is some of the facilities were closed because it was Saturday (Sabath) and the museum closed at 5pm so we only had 20 minutes to look through it...
