Deze rondleiding gaat vooral over het beeld van Richard Serra. Het adembenemende beeldhouwwerk in het natuurgebied Brouq in de woestijn. Ras Brouq - een schiereiland gelegen aan de westkust van Qatar - draagt de overblijfselen van prehistorische menselijke bewoning. De prachtige en iconische rotsformaties bij Ras Brouq bieden een glimp van een prehistorisch landschap. En tussendoor krijg je de Mushroom Rock Formation, Zekreet Village en Zekreet Fort Ruins te zien.

Zekreet is een dorp in het noordwesten van Qatar. Fort Zekreet ligt aan de westkust van Qatar, 90 km van Doha. Het fort heeft een zeer onderscheidende lay-out die het mogelijk maakt om de twee verschillende bouwfasen te zien. Oorspronkelijk was het fort gebouwd als een eenvoudig plein zonder torens in elke hoek. In een tweede ontwikkelingsfase werden torens toegevoegd aan de buitenste vier hoeken van het fort.
De internationaal befaamde kunstenaar Richard Serra voegt de verbazingwekkende Oost-West/West-Oost-sculptuur toe aan het woestijnlandschap en brengt kunst naar de mensen. Oost-West/West-Oost is sinds de installatie in 2014 een beroemd herkenningspunt in Qatar geworden. Dit adembenemende beeldhouwwerk in het natuurgebied Brouq is ruim een kilometer lang en bestaat uit vier stalen platen van elk meer dan veertien meter hoog.
Je kunt ook het strand van Zekreet zien. Waar je veel mensen ziet komen voor kitesurfen en para-zeilen.
Het gebied valt op door zijn ongewone landschap van witte kliffen. De vorm en kleur van het landschap zijn het resultaat van de erosie van zachte kalksteenlagen, terwijl de windvormige witte kliffen en bizarre geologische vormen, zoals paddestoelvormige heuvels, het gebied uniek en speciaal maken voor Qatar.

Our guide, Zubair, was very knowledgeable and was able to give us lots of information about the sites we visited and even sites along the journey which was very interesting. He spoke good English and drove well in a very comfortable and well air conditioned vehicle. Would definitely recommend!

An interesting trip out of Doha, with the highlight being Richard Serra's amazing East-West / West-East art installation. It was also worth seeing the striking landscape around Mushroom Rock. All-in-all, we enjoyed our time with our guide Muhammad, who was knowledgeable, polite and patient. We felt in very safe hands.

Excellent half-day tour of Western Qatar that included the Mushroom top rocks, East-West West-East monoliths, Zekreet Fort ruins. We also did a stop at the camel race track for a quick look around. Our guide, Zubair was engaging and well informed about the area and the sites we visited.
