Mulkirigala Raja Maha Vihara (ook bekend als Mulgirigala Raja Maha Vihara) is een oude boeddhistische tempel in Mulkirigala, Sri Lanka. Het is gebouwd op een 205 m hoge natuurlijke rots, omringd door nog eens vier rotsen die bekend staan als Benagala, Kondagala, Bisogala en Seelawathiegala. Klap in een klap de 500 treden op en je zult een reeks van zeven gespleten grotten tegenkomen op vijf verschillende terrasvormige niveaus. In de grotten zijn een aantal grote liggende Boeddhabeelden afgewisseld met kleinere zittende en staande figuren.
Een 50 meter hoge zittende Boeddha-figuur - de grootste in Sri Lanka - is een hoogtepunt van deze ietwat opzichtige tempel, die vaak wordt overspoeld met aanbidders. Voordat je de Boeddha bereikt, passeer je een hal van gruwelen vol levensgrote modellen van demonen en zondaars. De afgebeelde straffen zijn ondergedompeld in kokende ketels, in tweeën gezaagd en van boord gehaald.

Hummanaya Blowhole is het enige bekende blaasgat in Sri Lanka en wordt beschouwd als het op een na grootste blaasgat ter wereld. "Hummanaya" (het blaasgat) verwijst naar het geluid, "hoo", dat op enige afstand te horen is wanneer het blaasgat actief is. Hummanaya is een natuurlijk blaasgat en wordt veroorzaakt wanneer zeewater door een verzonken grot stroomt en omhoog wordt geduwd. Het zeewater stroomt onder de kust en komt dan onder druk uit dit gat. De waterfontein gecreëerd door de geologische functie schiet om de paar minuten op, afhankelijk van de aard van de zee, waarbij de spray vaak een hoogte bereikt van 25 m (82 ft) tot 30 m (98 ft)

We had an incredible experience with Shehan starting with a sightseeing tour in Tangalle. From the very beginning, he was extremely punctual, and his car was in excellent condition—clean, comfortable, and reliable. What truly stood out was his kindness and the utmost care he took with our infant. Traveling with a little one can be stressful, but Shehan made us feel completely at ease throughout the sightseeing. We were so impressed that we booked him again for our trip to Galle and our final transfer from Weligama to Colombo airport. We initially booked Shehan for just one trip, but after experiencing his professionalism, we ended up booking him for our excursions to Galle and our final transfer from Weligama to Colombo Airport. Very genuine and familiar experience. We love the brothers bar cuisine. The views from Tangalle were spextacular and it has so many surfing spots.
Amazing afternoontrip. Kumara took us to all the nice places. He knows a lot about the area and has a lot of humor. He's also very flexible and willing to change plans if needed. The guide at the rocktemple was also very funny. Had a great time, definitly would recommend.
Amazing trip where our guide Shehan was very knowledgeable, thorough to show us everything whilst also being flexible with our preferences and needs. We saw an incredible amount and were truely guided through the temples and sights. Wanted to make extra stops such as to a souvenir shop and were never rushed even though it was late in the evening. A very pleasant day, the best of our Sri Lanka trip.
This was pretty fun! Our guide Asid if im not mistaken was pretty cool we went to a bunch of places beach temples a small spice garden and they were accommodating about some stops i had to make, the weather was beautiful , the driver was good too , definitely worth it to get an idea about the town
We travelled to Sri Lanka last month in April 22 with my family (4 adults and 2 kids). Shehan was amazingly helpful, from our pick up at Colombo’s airport up to the drop off. He and his brother are really resourceful, providing us with safe transfers and taxi rides, good infos on what to see and where to eat. He helped us in providing the freshest sea food any time we required. We can’t wait to come back to this marvelous country. We explored Tangalle and much more. Went to see the Blow hole and the Blue island. Then watched the sunset on the Hiriketiya beach. Local tour guide Shehan showed us some pretty cool secret spots ❤️ We enjoyed it, highly recommend!
Fabulous trip and Shehan was a great guide. Super friendly and really well informed. Would definitely recommend! They went over and above to show us the sites and make sure we had a good time and we were comfortable.
