Tijdens onze walking food tour in Tampa geniet je van een verscheidenheid aan klassieke hapjes. Van bekroonde Cubaanse sandwiches en duivelse krab tot handgemaakt guavegebak van een veelgeprezen bakkerij, onze ervaren gidsen nemen je mee door Ybor City, een levendige buurt waar geschiedenis en moderne cultuur op de best mogelijke manier botsen. Oorspronkelijk opgericht door Cubaanse, Spaanse en Italiaanse sigarenfabrikanten in de late 19e eeuw, heeft Ybor vastgehouden aan zijn wortels en evolueert het tot een levendige hub voor voedsel, muziek en kunst. Dag of nacht zie je een eclectische menigte langs kleurrijke muurschilderingen slenteren, eeuwenoude gebouwen verkennen of zich verzamelen in terrasjes onder de zachte gloed van slingerlichten. Van de bruisende 7th Avenue tot de verborgen steegjes en parken, Ybor City ademt een oude charme vermengd met een gedurfde, eigentijdse rand die voelt als een klein stukje Havana midden in het hart van Tampa.

We ontmoeten elkaar buiten het museum voor een smakelijke traktatie!
Op weg naar ons eerste restaurant wandelen we door dit iconische park vol historische beelden en de thuisbasis van de beroemde kippen van Ybor City. Na afloop leiden we je naar een bite die zelf een behoorlijke bite heeft!
Vervolgens stoppen we bij het oudste restaurant van de staat voor een echte Floridiaanse delicatesse, terwijl we ons vergapen aan verbluffend tegelwerk. Enkele van de beroemdheden die hier zijn gespot, zijn Babe Ruth, Marilyn Monroe en Bruce Springsteen.
Ontdek de verborgen pareltjes van Ybor City terwijl we ons een weg banen door een van Tampa’s oudste wijken. Eeuwenoude sigarenwinkels, levendige muurschilderingen en merkwaardige winkels combineren voor een ervaring als geen ander. Terwijl we dwalen, stoppen we voor HET Tampa-gerecht dat je niet mag missen, evenals een Griekse specialiteit op een plek die de lokale bevolking al jaren verrukt. Terwijl we verder rijden door deze schat van Florida, ziet u schilderachtige straten met palmbomen en geniet u van de levendigheid van het gebied. We eindigen onze tijd samen met een weelderig dessert dat onze tour perfect afsluit.

Jacob was so friendly and excited to teach all about the history of Tampa! The Rooster/chicken history of the city of Ybor is so unique. Such a great visit of learning about the melting pot of culture that molded Tampa. Every stop on the Tasting tour was delicious! Alligator tacos were incredible. The Cuban sandwich and the crab cake were awesome. Every owner of the restaurants were accommodating and welcoming to our group. Absolutely recommend to anyone! My kids have some allergies and Jacob made sure to plan for the few substitutions for them. 5 stars for sure.

The tour was a highlight of our trip. Guide, Jacob, was knowledgeable, passionate about his city, and engaging for all of us. It was the best gator taco I've ever had ... well, first gator taco, but it may have been the best TACO I've ever had!!! (I'm not exactly sure why we had the Greek food but it was good. ) definitely worth it!!

We did the Tampa Secret Food Tour on 3/20/26 with our tour guide, Jacob. The secret food stop was my favorite, but all of the dishes were delicious! The portions were more than generous! Jacob was welcoming and knowledgeable. We even made some new friends. I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in learning about the rich history of the Ybor neighborhood while sampling a unique variety of food!
