De Takayama Jin'ya is een overgebleven jin'ya uit de Edo-periode die van 1692 tot 1871 diende als regeringshoofdkwartier voor de provincie Hida onder het Tokugawa-shogunaat van Japan.
Een essentiële Takayama-traditie wordt Asa-ichi genoemd. Achter deze naam gaat de kleine ochtendmarkt schuil waar verse producten en lokale ambachten te vinden zijn.
De Miyagawa Morning Market bestaat al meer dan twee eeuwen in een of andere vorm en is nog steeds een knooppunt voor verse producten. De markt bevindt zich aan beide oevers van de Miya-rivier tussen twee bruggen - Kajibashi en Yayoibashi. Elke ochtend, als het weer het toelaat, kun je alles kopen, van lokale groenten en fruit tot poppen en stijlvolle eetstokjes. Zoals met alle markten, hoe eerder je er bent, hoe beter. De sappigste, meest verse producten worden als eerste geplukt en de markt is een perfecte plek om mensen te kijken.
Het hart van Takayama is Sanmachi, de oude stad van bewaard gebleven en gerestaureerde gebouwen. Tijdens de Edo-periode (1603-1867) was Takayama een levendige centrumstad die bruiste van ambachtslieden, kooplieden en boeren uit de omgeving. Vandaag de dag is die erfenis bewaard gebleven in de drie hoofdstraten en omliggende wijken van Sanmachi.
OHNOYA, traditionele brouwerij en winkel van miso- en sojabron, werd 250 jaar geleden opgericht in de stad Takayama (HIDA).

Deze privétour is een wandeldagtocht. Een privévoertuig is niet inbegrepen. Openbaar vervoer of lokale taxi's kunnen worden gebruikt om van locatie te wisselen. Yuriko (Lily) was very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. She was flexible and was able to push your tour back as we had travel delays. Tour hit interesting historical and culture sites and was less of a food tour compared to others we’ve done. Tasted one sample miso soup, Sake tasting and she ended the tour by leaving us at amazing steak restaurant.
