Deze waardevolle reis met een door de overheid erkende en ervaren meertalige gids is een fantastische en efficiënte manier om Takamatsu te verkennen! Deze levendige havenstad heeft vele attracties, waaronder het Takamatsu-kasteel, regionale culinaire specialiteiten zoals Sanuki-udon en een van de mooiste tuinen van Japan, Ritsurin Koen. Takamatsu dient ook als toegangspoort tot de vele prachtige eilanden in de Seto Inland Sea, waardoor het een perfecte uitvalsbasis is om de regio te verkennen. Ritsurin Koen (栗林 公園) is een landschapstuin in Takamatsu City, gebouwd door de lokale feodale heren tijdens de vroege Edo-periode. Beschouwd als een van de beste tuinen in Japan, wordt vaak gesuggereerd dat Ritsurin Koen een plek verdient op de lijst van de "drie mooiste tuinen van Japan" naast de Kenrokuen van Kanazawa, de Kairakuen van Mito en de Korakuen van Okayama. Het ruime park beschikt over vele vijvers, heuvels, historische bomen en prachtige paviljoens verdeeld in een Japanse stijl tuin in het zuiden en westerse tuin in het noorden. De tuinen liggen tegenover beboste Mt. Shiun die dient als een prachtige achtergrond en een geweldig voorbeeld van geleend landschap.
Takamatsu-kasteel (高 松 城, Takamatsujō), ook bekend als Tamamo-kasteel, werd gebouwd in 1590 naast de Seto-binnenzee. Het is een van de weinige Japanse kastelen gebouwd langs een waterkant, en beschikt over zoutwatergrachten die rechtstreeks uit de zee trekken. De Ikoma-clan regeerde 54 jaar vanuit het kasteel voordat hun leengoed werd gegeven aan de Matsudaira-clan, familieleden van de Tokugawa Shogun, die de regio gedurende de rest van de Edo-periode bewaarden. De bewaring van het kasteel van Takamatsu werd vernietigd tijdens de Meiji-periode, maar er zijn plannen om het in de toekomst te reconstrueren. Een eerste stap in de richting van dit doel werd in 2013 bereikt toen de restauratie van de fundering van de kasteeltoren na vele jaren van werken werd voltooid.
In het centrum van Takamatsu bevindt zich een lange overdekte winkelgalerij, die zich uitstrekt van het kasteel van Takamatsu tot Ritsurin Koen. Het bestaat uit verschillende winkels, restaurants en twee warenhuizen en is naar verluidt de langste overdekte winkelgalerij in Japan met een totale lengte van bijna 2,7 kilometer. Het noordelijke uiteinde van de winkelgalerij nabij het kasteel van Takamatsu en het warenhuis Mitsukoshi is onlangs herontwikkeld tot een groot plein en winkelcentrum met luxe winkels zoals Louis Vuitton en Coach. Lion Dori, een zijstraat die parallel loopt aan de belangrijkste winkelstraat, bevat voornamelijk restaurants, waaronder die waar Sanuki Udon wordt geserveerd.
Dit museum in Ritsurin-kōen toont lokale ambachten, huishoudelijke artikelen, meubels en dakpannen in zijn vier zalen, daterend uit de Tokugawa-dynastie.

It was wonderful to have such a personalized tour & we were able to walk through the beautiful Takamatsu Castle with indepth explanation of history and culture. We even stopped to have lunch at a famous noodle shop that makes/teaches how to make the famous Sanuki noodles.
The guests were very kind and listened to my explanation attentively, therefore I have been very happy to guide them. For lunch first I took them to a famous and old Udon noodle shop, but it was closed on that day, Tuesday. It was my mistake, then I came up with another Udon shop I used to go and we went there. I was happy that the guest said I had never had such a good Udon noodle. Kaji

My husband, son and his girlfriend and cousin toured Takamatsu with Mika and we had an excellent time with her.
