We nemen de schilderachtige route naar Hunter Valley via de iconische Tourist Drive 33 — een prachtig begin van een dag die is ontworpen voor verbinding, nieuwsgierigheid en vertragen — gewoon kronkelende wegen, open luchten en veranderende landschappen die de toon zetten voor de komende dag. Met een kleine groep en een flexibele aanpak voelt deze ervaring meer als een roadtrip met nieuwe vrienden dan een typische tour. Het gaat allemaal om het soort reizen dat ruimte laat voor verhalen, spontaniteit en ziel.
Wollombi is een charmant, historisch dorp waar de tijd lijkt stil te staan. We verkennen de schilderachtige winkels, historische gebouwen en rustige vibes en drinken een snelle koffie.
Je begint bij een van de meest historische familiewijnhuizen van Hunter, opgericht in 1858. Hier begint het verhaal van de regio. U proeft klassieke, hartige, droge wijnen gemaakt van enkele van de oudste wijnstokken van het land, waaronder hun kenmerkende Semillon, bekend om zijn frisse citrustonen die zich prachtig ontwikkelen met de jaren. Het gaat hier niet om trends, het gaat om traditie, evenwicht en begrijpen wat deze regio uniek maakt.
Wijngaard 2. We verschuiven naar iets gedurfders. Je verkent grote rode wijnen en vergelijkt Shiraz of Chardonnay uit verschillende Australische regio’s, waardoor je een echt gevoel krijgt van hoe klimaat en terroir smaak vormen. Niet zomaar een drankje, maar iets wat je echt ervaart en begrijpt.
Vervolgens komt de persoonlijke kant van de Hunter. U bezoekt een boetiek, een door een familie beheerd wijnhuis dat een nieuwe generatie wijnbereiding vertegenwoordigt, waar creativiteit en expressie doorkomen in elke schenking. Deze stop gaat gepaard met een hartige Aussie taartproeverij die uw lunch wordt.
En dan, een zoete afwerking. Geniet van een begeleide wijn- en chocoladecombinatie, waarbij smaken zorgvuldig op elkaar worden afgestemd om het beste in beide naar boven te halen. Van lichtere wijnen met delicate chocolade tot rijkere roden met diepere tonen, het is een ontspannen en verwennende manier om de dag af te sluiten.
Terug naar Sydney via Snelweg7 Na een volle dag verkennen, goed ga terug naar Sydney de snelle manier. Leun achterover, ontspan en geniet van de Rijden misschien zelfs een dutje terwijl we cruisen over de snelweg met goede muziek en goede vibes.

A wonderful experience in the Hunter Valley Michael_K, Apr. 2026 We hadn't heard of the Hunter Valley before, and this wine region was recommended to us by Australian friends. Sabina contacted us a few days before the tour and asked about our specific preferences and requests. Because the sun sets early, we agreed to start the tour an hour earlier. Sabina made our day absolutely wonderful. She was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, introducing us to three wineries and having the tastings all planned out in advance. She was able to provide detailed insights into the region’s unique features, and during the time we had, we learned a great deal about viticulture and its history, as well as the land and its people. The ten-hour tour flew by. We can wholeheartedly recommend this private tour to anyone interested in wine and would go on another tour with Sabina as our guide anytime.

We were not aware of Hunter-Valley and this wine region was recommended to us by Australian friends. Sabina contacted us days before the tour and asked us about special preferences and wishes. Because of the early sunset we agreed to start the tour an hour earlier. Sabina made a wonderful day possible for us, she was extremely competent and friendly and introduced us to three wineries and had planned the tastings. She knew how to report in detail about the special features of the region and we learned a lot about winegrowing and its history as well as about the land and people in the time available. The ten-hour tour flew by. We can only recommend this private tour to anyone interested in wine and would go back on tour at any time with Sabina as guide.

Sabina is extremely knowledgeable about wines and wineries in Hunter Valley. We arrived too early for our Petersons Winery tasting hence Sabina adapted and took us to a cheese and wine tasting. The cheese and winery shop was a gem called Fat Cow. Drank amazing 2011 Shiraz. And bought 6 bottles. What a deal $33/nottle. Fat Cow was a hidden gem found by Sabina. We would definitely recommend Sabina and book a wine tasting/hiking tour with her in the future .Who knew…she’s also a hiking guide. A great tour guide who also loves wine and hiking.

Sabina was awesome! We did the Hunter & Wollombi Valley private wine tour. Sabina picked us up at our hotel(she was there 10 minutes early) and off we went on the 2 hour trek to wine country. We first visited Tyrrell’s where Scott took great care of us. This was our first glimpse into the relationship Sabina has built with the wineries. They obviously love her and treat her guests exceptionally well. Then we met Pete at Hunter Valley Fat Cow where they do wine and cheese pairings with locally sourced wines. We then went to Petersons winery where we tasted some fabulous wines! We wrapped up our tastings at Savannah Estates. Given that Savannah Peterson is the founder of Savannah Estates and the youngest of the Peterson family to pursue her passion in wine, you would expect the wines to be fabulous … and they were! We also had a sampling of meat pies with our wine that were well worth the additional cost! We wrapped up our wine tasting and headed back to Sydney with one more stop in Wollombi where we stopped and wandered around the historic village! We totally enjoyed our day with Sabina and would enthusiastically recommend her tours!

We had an amazing day on this private wine tour to the Hunter Valley and Wollombi Valley. I went with my parents, who were visiting Sydney for the first time, and it was a wonderful experience to share together. The drive out of the city was beautiful and relaxing, and stopping in Wollombi was a lovely surprise — a charming village with great scenery. The wine tastings were excellent, and we really enjoyed learning about Australian wines and the local wine culture. Everything was explained clearly and in an engaging way, making it enjoyable even for those who are not wine experts. What we appreciated most was how personal and relaxed the experience felt. There was no rushing, plenty of time to enjoy each winery, ask questions, and take in the surroundings.

We wanted to go to Yengo National Park- a bit of hiking- unfortunately it was not possible to get there because of the current road condition. The wine tour was interesting. Sabina was full of energy from start to finish and a very good driver. The drive through the beautiful landscapes we enjoyed very much.
