Vurige kalkstenen kliffen vormen een dramatisch decor voor de Tempel van Hatsjepsoet, een monument voor de vrouwelijke farao die ooit koning was van het oude Egypte. De gladde colonnade van de tempel is gereconstrueerd en de gevel wisselt af met gloeiende kolommen met diepe schaduwen. Ga naar binnen en vind reliëfgravures, hiërogliefen en heiligdommen.
Vallei der Koningen, een lange smalle doorgang net ten westen van de rivier de Nijl in Opper-Egypte. Het maakte deel uit van de oude stad Thebe en was de begraafplaats van bijna alle koningen (farao's) van de 18e, 19e en 20e dynastieën (1539-1075 vGT), van Thoetmosis I tot Ramses X. Gelegen in de heuvels erachter Dayr al-Baḥrī, de 62 bekende graven vertonen variatie, zowel qua plattegrond als qua decoratie. In 1979 heeft UNESCO de vallei aangewezen als onderdeel van het werelderfgoed van het oude Thebe, waartoe ook Luxor, de Vallei der Koninginnen en Karnak behoren.
Vallei der Koninginnen, kloof in de heuvels langs de westelijke oever van de Nijl in Opper-Egypte. Het maakte deel uit van het oude Thebe en diende als begraafplaats van de koninginnen en enkele koninklijke kinderen van de 19e en 20e dynastie (1292–1075 v.Chr.). De necropolis van de koninginnen ligt ongeveer 2,4 km ten westen van de dodentempel van Ramses III (1187–56 v.Chr.) in Madīnat Habu. Er zijn meer dan 90 tombes bekend, meestal bestaande uit een toegangspassage, een paar korte gangen en een sarcofaagkamer. De vroegste kan die van Sitre zijn, de vrouw van Ramses I. De meest opvallende zijn die van Nefertari, de favoriete koningin van Ramses II; van prinsen Khaemwese en Amonhirkhopsef; en van een Ramesside-koningin genaamd Titi. In 1979 voegde UNESCO de Vallei der Koninginnen, de Vallei der Koningen, Karnak, Luxor en andere bezienswaardigheden van Thebe toe aan de Werelderfgoedlijst.
De twee gezichtsloze Kolossen van Memnon, die oorspronkelijk farao Amenhotep III vertegenwoordigden en majestueus ongeveer 18 meter boven de vlakte oprijzen, zijn de eerste monumenten die toeristen zien als ze de westelijke oever bezoeken. Deze prachtige kolossen, elk uit één blok steen gesneden en 1000 ton zwaar, stonden bij de oostelijke ingang van de graftempel van Amenophis III, de grootste op de westelijke oever. Egyptologen zijn momenteel de tempel aan het opgraven en hun ontdekkingen zijn achter de kolossen te zien.

We were ready at 4:30am, they never showed up. The day before the local operator confirmed the activity with Viator.
We’re sorry for the confusion, but we’d like to clarify the situation. This activity was cancelled by us two days in advance on Viator due to weather conditions, and the cancellation was properly processed. Your booking was never confirmed on our side, and when you called, there was no active reservation to confirm. Additionally, you received a full refund, which was completed according to Viator’s policy. Given that the tour was cancelled in advance for safety reasons and fully refunded, it’s unfair to describe our service as poor when the activity did not take place. We always prioritize guest safety and transparency, and we did everything correctly in this case.
Two people who have hypsophobia, tried Hot Air Balloon today! We woke up very early in the morning to see the sunrise from the balloon and accomplished it beautifully! It's very safe and if we can do it, anyone can do it! 🙂 Tried to capture some beautiful moments from the top but it was so cold but pleasant, we chose to enjoy it for a longer time! It was almost for 45 minutes, so you definitely will get a nice time up there and yeah, it's very romantic. DO NOT MISS IT if you come to Luxor! Highly recommended! Our experience with Adi tours and Nuba flower tours is amazing… Ahmed adel and team planned and organized the trip very well… he gave us amazing time and most memorable experiences in Cairo, Giza pyramid complex, Luxor , aswan and Alexandria… the transport and stay at all places are comfortable , the guides are very good and amazing food choices for lunch ….
