Stutthof concentratiekamp was het eerste en het langst werkende concentratiekamp op het grondgebied van Polen. Het was opgericht om de Joodse en Poolse inlichtingendienst uit te roeien, voornamelijk uit de Pommeren en de vrije stad Gdask. Gebouwd in 1939 en aanvankelijk bedoeld voor ongeveer 3000 mensen, werd dit kamp geleidelijk de plaats van marteling en slachting voor meer dan 110 duizend gevangenen uit 26 landen, van wie de meesten werden gemarteld, gedwongen om te werken of stierven in gaskamers. Stutthof Concentration Camp is momenteel open voor bezoekers. Omdat de expositie vrij ingrijpend is, kan deze alleen worden bezocht door personen van 13 jaar of ouder. De reis duurt 5 uur en het aanbod omvat het toegangsticket voor het museum en een begeleide verkenning van het voormalige Stutthof-gebied - de oude en nieuwe kampkwartier, de villa van de hoofdcommandant, gaskamers, crematorium en het monument voor de slachtoffers. Daarnaast is het ook mogelijk om een film over het kamp te bekijken.

This was a great trip with a guide with deep knowledge and a very good and accurate way of telling the stories abaut Stutthof from the start to the end. Mike (our Guide) told the whole story, the awful handling of the people, how the camp was runned, and the strategies for survival was for the people in Stutthof. It is highly rekommended to do this tour for adults and teens.

If you are interested in history or just a really humbling experience, this concentration camp will open your eyes to struggles of the people that was imprisoned here. If you coming in the winter months make sure you dress warm. The cold adds to the experience. If you are in the Gdansk area this is a must see. Having a guided tour definitely helps to get a full concrete experience. Your tour guide was on time to pick us up and shared so much about the local area as well. The beach is close and the shops have some great homemade ice cream. Hope you all enjoy as much as our family did.
