Once in a Lifetime Visit

Came here on a coach trip and there was ample parking, but as our tickets were included with the trip, I do not know the admission fee. You can either use a shuttle bus to travel to the stones, or cut across fields and wooded areas and walk the 1.3 miles to the monument, which we did. The site is very well organised and is roped off so that no one can damage the stones; that said, there is 1 area where you get quite close. Personally, I didn't feel that the stones were as tall as I had imagined, but they were very mystical. It was very busy, with crowds of international tourists, but it was also well spaced out. There were plenty of staff on hand at various sections of the walk who were very knowledgeable. The visitors centre is also well worth a look, as the history of the stones is mapped out with a 3-D projected walk-through. It is worth a visit if you've never been, but I think 2-3 hours would adequately do it justice.

It feels like a rip-off

The access tickets are very expensive, maybe some of the most expensive onces of all historic items from the English Heritage. Don't forget the parking on top of it. You would expect a nice walk towards the monument, but it is a boring roadway, and yes you can take the bus - which we did to return - dogs are allowed. Dogs are not allowed in the ionner circle - for which you need to pay - but can walk outside that circle, where it is free. Honestly why pay to see the same from 10 meter closer. Of right, the instagram posts!!! Several indications have added, where you can take a pose for instagram or social media. So you get groups lining up for the social media and not for history. Can you degrade your legacy any more? Luckily you still have the museum to learn some about history.

Special visit to Stonehenge

Amazing historic site, but be aware that the queues for entry and the bus are lengthy. They need more admission booths to manage this better, as the queue for buying a ticket on the day was quicker, than precooked tickets. Nowhere on the way in to the carpark does it appear to mention that you need to pay for parking. I did notice an A-board right by the entrance on the path, so I paid £4.20. When I finally got to the admission booth I was told I had free admission with my booking, slightly annoying. If you choose to walk, it's a long haul down a road, or you can cut across some field part of the way, both take a good 30 mins, but much better than waiting to die in the queue for the shuttle bus. Overall it's quite busy, so think about the best time to visit and you may have a better experience.

Good experience

The line of pre-ordered tickets was very long, longer than buying directly there!

Jaw Dropping

A must-see attraction for anyone interested in history in this country. Not visited Stonehenge for over 40 years but really liked how the museum and visitors centre is set back from the stones. The walk is great and who would be disappointed with the stones. It is pricey but as English heritage members it was free. You have to remember that places like Stonehenge and the money taken there support all other more minor places too.

Stonehenge yes, ticket purchase unnecessary and expensive!

We visited Stonehenge and fortunately did NOT buy an official ticket but decided to take the footpath to the stones instead. You get the same view from the second row, only for free! Only the parking lot at the visitor center then costs 4 pounds.

Perfect summer day out

Booked the night before and arrived at 10 am There was a different parking app to the one on the web site (ring go) which we finally managed to download and pay with (£4.20) Found at the ticket booth that we could have paid there !! Once we were in it was fine Being older we decided to catch the shuttle up to the stones which were awesome!! After an hour or so we rode back to the centre and sampled some delicious meads and wines Bought some souvenirs and a bottle of cherry mead (it was delicious) The exhibition centre was very interesting and the staff only too willing to share their extensive knowledge. Loved the thatched hut village too. Glad we went in the morning as it was very hot at 2 pm when we left plus much bigger crowds and queues

Seven Wonders of the World

A huge pile of stones appears on such a level ground. There are many sites in Egypt and other parts of the world that use megaliths, but it is hard to describe the strangeness of appearing so tightly in the middle of nowhere.

Do not buy tickets

Way overpriced (like out of this world), when you can see it 10 Meters further away for free. The exhibition is pathetic and the only good thing is that can see/read everything within 5 minutes.
