Onze reis naar Aberfoyle neemt ons mee langs de oevers van Lochs Venachar en Achray, door de prachtige Trossachs - de 'Highlands in Miniature' - en over de schilderachtige rit van de Duke's Pass, een prachtig hooglandlandschap met meren en bergen.
Dit is het land van Rob Roy, populair geworden door de boeken en gedichten van Sir Walter Scott. Legenden en bijgeloof van feeën of 'kleine mensen' in overvloed in deze heuvels ...
Hier, bij de beroemde ‘bonnie banks’, begeleidt uw Gids u op een korte natuurwandeling, met als hoogtepunt een prachtig uitzichtpunt op de Hooglanden en fotomogelijkheden over het grootste meer van Schotland en de Arrochar Alpen. De geologische definitie van Schotland tussen Hooglanden en Laaglanden is vanaf hier in al zijn glorie te zien! Loch Lomond en de Trossachs werden in 2002 uitgeroepen tot het eerste nationale park van Schotland en het blijft een extreem populair gebied bij zowel de lokale bevolking als bezoekers.
We eindigen de dag in Glengoyne Distillery, gelegen in een beboste vallei in de zuidelijke Highlands. De distilleerderij, die zijn naam dankt aan ‘Glen Guin’ of Glen of the Wild Geese, produceert al bijna 200 jaar een hoogwaardige single malt. Je krijgt natuurlijk de kans om deze prachtig gelegen distilleerderij te bezoeken en het heerlijke 12-jarige product zelf te proeven!
Doune Castle is beroemd om zijn verschijning in Monty Python's Holy Grail, Game of Thrones en Outlander.

We loved the tour, the castle, Loch Lomond, the horse heads, et al. Our driver and guide was a young lady who was knowledgeable, funny, informative, and a skilled driver. Kudos.

The bus was not comfortable, the seatbelt digs into your hip. The Hairy Coos were an unexpected highlight. The nature walk was NOT guided, and took us about an hour to get through-it is beautiful but we were a little anxious that we would not make it back to the bus in time. Guide was sweet and the distillery was nice.

This tour was brilliant! A great sampling of everything that makes Scotland..well, Scotland! Our tour guide was Euan and was amazing! Very knowledgeable and personable, kept us entertained the whole time. The small group experience is absolutely the way to go - so much more intimate and personal than a "big bus" tour. I'd use Heart of Scotland Tours over and over!

What a fun day! James took us on a day trip to get a variety of experiences that make his country so wonderful. We started with a trip to Stirling Castle, a beautiful castle that we had almost to ourselves because we arrived fairly early. We stopped in a small town at a popular bakery for delicious sandwiches before a quick stop to photograph the famous "hairy coo". The stop at Glengoyne was very well done - informative and generous with tastings. We finished with a trip to the banks of Loch Lomond, even getting a chance to stretch our legs and walk a bit of the path around it. In between visits James did a great job with history, Scottish lore and personal stories, plus plenty of music.

Roddy was our tour guide and was fantastic. He gave great history about Scotland! All of the stops were wonderful. This was a great way to explore small parts of Scotland.

Roddy was an exceptional guide. He graciously shared snippets throughout the day that really enhanced the experience. Scottish History, Culture, Language, Geology(!), Botany and the significance of locations. Caring and courteous he made the trip to the Castle, the Distillery and the Loch all the more special on our first adventure out of Edinburgh into the Highlands, with short stops and photo, food and drink recommendations. Epic day for me and my wife, and we met other lovely couples too. Highly recommended!
