De boerderij dankt zijn charmante naam aan de legendarische kolonie schildpadden die in de jaren 1800 in de vlei werd gevonden. Het prachtige stuk land werd Skilpadvlei genoemd en is sinds 1917 in handen van de familie Joubert. Vandaag de dag handhaaft de vierde generatie Willie Joubert de trotse familietraditie om het rijke potentieel van het land te benutten met een toegewijde toewijding aan kwaliteit. Skilpadvlei is een volledig operationele boerderij van 78 ha.
Neethlingshof Estate ligt net buiten het prachtige stadje Stellenbosch in het hart van de Kaapse Wijnlanden. Een iconische laan van imposante pijnbomen markeert de ingang van de boerderij, die leidt naar de traditionele "werf" van het landgoed. Het landgoed Neethlingshof, meer dan 300 jaar geleden opgericht, beschikt over enkele van de best gerestaureerde en bewaarde traditionele Kaap-Nederlandse gebouwen, waardoor bezoekers een duidelijk gevoel voor geschiedenis en ouderwetse charme hebben. De schoonheid en charme van de boerderij en omgeving zweren al vele jaren bezoekers en we zijn erg gefocust op het behouden en verbeteren van de natuurlijke schoonheid van het landschap.
Een klein familiebedrijf met wijngaarden met een spectaculair uitzicht over de wijnlanden
De Waal Wines, gelegen op Landgoed Uiterwyk in de koele Stellenbosch Kloof Valley, is sinds 1864 een familiebedrijf van De Waal. De ervaring die op de bezoeker wacht is authentiek en ingetogen met persoonlijke aandacht van hands-on management. Deze historische familie-erfenis, eigendom van Pieter de Waal, telt negen generaties gepassioneerde wijnmakers, volledig gericht op het verrassen van hun klanten door het aanbieden van uitzonderlijke wijnen. De wijnen combineren elegante finesse uit de Oude Wereld en een overvloed aan fruit uit de Nieuwe Wereld. De volwassen wijngaarden van De Waal bieden druiven die diepe, rijke wijnen produceren die met liefde worden herinnerd vanwege hun constante kwaliteit en genot.

Carlo was our guide. He is knowledgeable, interesting and fun to bike with. He made us discover the wineries hillsides of Stellenbosch while enjoying a great bike ride and stopping at 4 vineyards where we tasted wines and local food samples. I highly recommend this experience with Carlo.

Two guides gave us a very well-led tour. We had extensive wine tastings. We rode on good e-bikes along various paths through the vineyards.

We visited an excellent range of Stellenbosch Vineyards and tried 20 different good quality wines in some amazing settings. The E-Bikes were very easy to use and Lee was a very knowledgeable and fun guide. Highly recommend the trip.

We had the most incredible day! The E-bikes were top quality and our Guides were knowledgeable and very helpful. The wine farms we visited had fantastic tastings and pairings and we had a lovely lunch at Jordan overlooking a beautiful dam. The route is manageable for all standards of cyclists and all in all is a brilliant day of exercise, food, wine and fun!

We booked the private luxury tour for our family of five with kids ages 12, 15, 17. E-Bikes were high quality and worked great on uphill and made the cycling easy for those who didn’t want too much effort. The wineries we visited were high quality (Neethlingshof, De Waal and Jordan (amazing property with incredible views) and then ended with a cheesecake and wine tasting at Skilpadvlei - where the company starts and ends their tours and where you pick up your bike. Our guide, Abi, was really fantastic. The entire family really loved the experience! Highly recommend.

What an experience to cycle through all those vineyards and watch the locals at work. The area is very hilly so it is nice to have some support from the e bike. The very friendly guide Philip knew a lot about the history, the wine and nature. Along the way you will visit a wine estate and also taste wines. You also end up at a wine estate where you can taste again and even have your lunch if you want. We did a half day tour in the morning. Definitely recommended to do! The bike tour through Cape Town on the regular mountain bike accompanied by AIF is also a must! If you're here you just have to make this trip through this organization. And anything is possible.
