Santhome Basilica, Little Mount en St Thomas Mount
Deze torenhoge rooms-katholieke kathedraal, op een steenworp afstand van het strand, werd gesticht door de Portugezen in 1523 en vervolgens herbouwd door de Britten in neogotische stijl in 1896 en zou de laatste rustplaats zijn van St. Thomas de apostel. Er wordt aangenomen dat 'Doubting Thomas' het christendom naar het subcontinent bracht in 52 na Christus en werd gedood in St. Thomas Mount, Chennai, in 72 na Christus. Hoewel het grootste deel van de stoffelijke resten van St. Thomas nu blijkbaar in Italië ligt, bevat een kruis op de grafmuur een klein botfragment gemerkt met 'Relic of St Thomas'. Het museum hierboven toont Thomas-gerelateerde artefacten, waaronder de lancetkop waarvan wordt aangenomen dat hij hem heeft vermoord. St Thomas 'pool, aan het strand van de straat aan de zuidkant van de kathedraal, zou de kathedraal op wonderbaarlijke wijze hebben gered van de tsunami in 2004.
Little Mount is een grot waarin St.Thomas zich in 68 na Christus verborg en boetedoening deed. Er is een opening naar het oosten van de grot waardoor St. Thomas ontsnapte toen zijn achtervolgers hem hier inhaalden. De palmprint en handafdruk bij de ingang van de tunnel worden verondersteld die van St.Thomas zelf te zijn. We zullen ook het metselwerk oversteken op de top van de heuvel waarvan wordt verondersteld dat het het kruis is waarvoor St.Thomas bad. Een ander interessant aspect van deze grot is de lente in de heuvel die eeuwigdurend is en de wonderlijke schepping van de heilige Thomas zelf zou moeten zijn.
De gereputeerde plaats van St. Thomas 'martelaarschap in 72 na Christus komt op in het zuidwesten van Chennai, 2,5 km ten noorden van het treinstation en metrostation van St. Thomas Mount. De Kerk van Onze Lieve Vrouw van Verwachting, gebouwd op de 'berg' door de Portugezen in 1523, bevat wat zogenaamd een fragment is van Thomas 'vingerbot en het' Bloedende Kruis 'dat hij heeft gesneden. De stad en de luchthaven zijn prachtig.

It was a great experience. My guide, Rajesh was very polite and is knowledgable of the locations. I managed to even attend the mass at the Tomb of St Thomas (although that take a bit more time). I also was able to be inside the cave at the Mount of St Thomas where St Thomas prayed. Then we ended it at the St Thomas Basilica where the blood of St Thomas was spilled. I was able to touch it and say my prayers. It was well worth it.

Positive: Close to points to see, driver very available, very friendly guide and knew how to adapt his English (rhythm...) to our level of language.
