De Heilige Kerk van Sint Paulus de Apostel in Agios Pavlos, Thessaloniki, Griekenland, is een prominente spirituele bezienswaardigheid gewijd aan Sint Paulus. Thessaloniki is een stad die nauw verbonden is met de zendingsreizen van de apostel, omdat hij er predikte en een christelijke gemeenschap stichtte, waarnaar in de brieven van het Nieuwe Testament aan de Thessalonicenzen wordt verwezen.
Philippi is een van de belangrijkste haltes voor degenen die de voetsporen van Saint Paul treden. Philippi, gelegen in het huidige Noord-Griekenland in de buurt van de stad Kavala, was een belangrijke stad in de Romeinse provincie Macedonië tijdens Paulus' tijd. Vandaag de dag kunnen bezoekers dankzij de archeologische overblijfselen van Philippi in Paulus' voetsporen treden: De doopkapel van Lydië, het Forum Romanum, de Gevangenis van Paulus en Silas, de Achthoekige Kerk (een van de vroegste christelijke kerken in Europa, gebouwd over de ruïnes van een ouder bouwwerk) en het Oude Theater.
Het Baptisterium van Sint-Lydia is een belangrijk christelijk bedevaartsoord in de buurt van de oude stad Philippi in Noord-Griekenland. Het herdenkt Lydia van Thyatira, de eerste geregistreerde Europese bekering tot het christendom, gedoopt door Sint Paulus tijdens zijn missionaire reis (Handelingen 16:13-15). Bijbelse betekenis van Lydia en haar doopsel Lydia, een handelaar in paarse doeken, was een rijke en invloedrijke vrouw uit Thyatira, die in Philippi woonde. Ze wordt beschreven als een "aanbidder van God", wat aangeeft dat ze waarschijnlijk een heiden was die het Joodse geloof vereerde. Haar bekering tot het christendom markeerde een beslissend moment in de verspreiding van het geloof naar Europa, waardoor ze een van de belangrijkste figuren in de vroegchristelijke geschiedenis werd. Sint Paulus doopte Lydia en haar huishouden bij een rivier buiten de stadspoorten van Philippi. Deze daad symboliseerde het begin van de christelijke kerk in Europa.
Op de top van de oude stad staat trots het fort, een bezienswaardigheid van Kavala en een van de mooiste bezienswaardigheden. De top van het schiereiland Panagia wordt gedomineerd door de Akropolis van Kavala, waarvan het grootste deel werd gebouwd in het eerste kwart van de 15e eeuw na Christus. Het binnenste district was het belangrijkste deel van de acropolis omdat het alle essentiële gebieden voor zijn verdediging bevatte. Vandaag kan de bezoeker zien: De centrale ronde toren, die de laatste verdedigingslinie was. De buskruit- en voedselopslag, die later werd omgebouwd tot gevangenis. Het garnizoen, een ruimte geschikt voor de verblijven van de officieren of bewakers. De waterbak. Twee vierkante en een veelhoekige toren zijn te zien in de muren van het buitenste district van de acropolis, terwijl in het binnenste district is er een openluchttheater voor culturele evenementen en een café voor bezoekers. Vanaf de bovenste verdieping van de centrale ronde toren kunt u genieten van een prachtig uitzicht over de hele stad Kavala.
Saint Paul's Bema in Kavala, Griekenland, is een monument dat de aankomst van Saint Paul in de stad tijdens zijn tweede missionaire reis herdenkt. Solon provided excellent service. He gave us great information about Greece on our trip to Philippi. The vehicle used was very comfortable. Our licensed guide at Philippi and Lydia's Baptistry was very informative. Solon took us to a very nice restaurant for lunch and a pleasant excursion in Kavala by the water before returning home.

Solon arrived at our hotel to begin a lovely day tracing the footsteps of St. Paul. He had contacted us before the tour began to find out a bit about our lunch/food preferences. After a quick tour of some sites in Thessaloniki proper, we began the pleasant drive to Philippi. Solon pointed out current and historical locations along the way. At the park, we met our extremely knowledgeable guide, Sula. She greatly expanded our knowledge of Philippi and Paul’s influence there, bringing a new richness to our understanding of Acts and Philippians. Next, we traveled to Lydia’s Baptistry. Such a beautiful and serene setting. Once again, Sula brought the history to life and highlighted the stunning artwork and decoration used in the baptistry building. Based on our preferences, Solon had prearranged an outstanding lunch in Kavala of Greek dishes at a delightful restaurant that we would never have found on our own.
