We (2 of us) booked the chef's tour and 4 course lunch with paired wines. ALL staff, the service, the food and wines are amazing. WOW .... will definitely do it again! Thank you sooooooo much St Hugo Team! :)
Thank you so much for sharing your review with us- the Garden to Table experience really allows you to have an in-depth food and wine experience, and also understand more about the St Hugo history, heritage and incredible wines. We look forward to welcoming you back for another experience in the near future!
What an incredible day at St Hugo in the Barossa Valley! The Garden to Table experience felt less like a formal wine tasting and more like spending the afternoon with good friends who just happen to be amazing chefs and wine experts. We started with a glass of Champagne and a stroll through the vineyards to the Kitchen Garden, where Adrian walked us through how they grow and use the produce on their seasonal menu. It really made us appreciate how much thought goes into every dish. Back at the restaurant, we were seated right at the open kitchen, watching the Executive Chef Simon Hicks and his skilled team at work while enjoying a beautiful four-course menu perfectly matched with St Hugo wines. The food was fresh and full of flavour, and the pairings couldn’t have been better. Offering alternative dishes to suit dietary requirements. Seeing the professional response to special requests for dining room guests and whipping up amazing cheese platters at short notice for the cellar door. The lamb cutlets were tender and delicious. The custard tart with gelato prepared from scratch in house was the stand out dish. Amazing. What really stood out, though, was the atmosphere — it honestly felt like a five-hour lunch with close friends, full of laughter, great conversation, and shared stories over incredible food and wine. A truly special experience — relaxed, intimate, and full of heart. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Highlight of our long weekend in the Barossa Valley 🍷✨

Perfect day at St Hugo's. Started off with a guided tour of the garden and estate with Executive Head Chef Simon Hicks accompanied by a glass of bubbly. Simon gave a great insight into history of the winery and his own extensive chef adventures around the world. Next we were presented with a table overlooking the kitchen where we were treated to one of the most stunning food experience I've ever had, perfectly matched with St Hugo's finest wine varietals. Thank you Simon and the team. Shout out to Ricky for the fantastic food preparation.
Thank you so much for visiting St Hugo and for sharing your Garden to Table experience with us- we have loved to read it was one of the best food experiences you have ever had, what a compliment for the team!
What an amazing wine and food experience at St Hugo cellar door. Surrounded by beautiful vineyards our small group was taken on a tour of the grounds with a bottomless glass of French champagne before being taken into the restaurant for the most divine five course degustation meal accompanied by St Hugo‘s most superb wines. Our table backed immediately onto the kitchen so we could watch head chef Simon Hicks and his team create delicious plates for us to devour. Simon was extremely generous with his time and meaningful chats about his professional life, the restaurant game, wine, and everything in between! I cannot wait to go to St Hugo Vineyards and cellar door again. Highly recommend!! I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm not sure there is anything better than to see a 6-star review come through!! We really appreciate you taking the time to share back your experience with us and how much you enjoyed your time with Simon. I hope we can welcome you back again soon to St Hugo!
St Hugo’s “Garden to Table Experience & Lunch” is for those who seek more than a meal. It started with a walk through the Kitchen Garden where chef Simon Hicks talked to us about the produce and the vines. Once inside, we were seated within arm’s reach of the kitchen and watched Simon and his team in action. We were able to engage with the chef throughout the meal, gaining insight into techniques, ingredients, inspiration and with lots of laughs along the way. With a profound dedication to seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients, he emphasises uncomplicated dishes. The sommelier guided us through an impeccable selection of wines, each enhancing and elevating the dish it accompanied. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn’t going to be just a lunch; it was a curated experience that blended food, wine, and storytelling.
What a wonderful review for our Garden to Table Experience! Simon is a wonderful host and I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed your time with him- I also love it being described as a curated experience which is exactly what we set out to do!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Garden experience with Chef Simon, entertaining and informative. Thank you also to Sonya and Ruby for taking care of our day!

Fantastic experience from the time you walk into St Hugo to the last mouth full ! The deligent'staff, friendly ambience and flavour of the food and wine pairing's are impeccable! Not being a wine drinker ..... Wow was I converted ! Every mouth full of the St Hugo range of Riesling, Shiraz and Tawny was lovely. All 6 wine tastings were a 10/10. The Trio of Chefs on board are an excellent team and offer the diner a great experience from garden to plate. My tastebuds definetly found the best of The Barossa all in one place. Thank you for showing us a Wonderful time, we can't wait to return and be reacquainted ! 5⭐️
A wonderful review of our Garden to Table experience, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us!
I’ve never felt more unwelcome at a restaurant. The service was not just bad—it was clearly biased. From the moment we arrived, the staff barely acknowledged us, while other customers were greeted with smiles and friendly attitudes. We were basically ignored unless we pushed for attention. They were refilling water for every other table but didn’t even bother to give us some. Let’s call it what it is: it felt like racism. There’s no other way to explain how differently we were treated compared to others around us. It’s 2025, this kind of behaviour is disgusting and unacceptable. I don’t care how good the food might be. If you can’t treat people with basic respect, especially people of color, then your business doesn’t deserve support. I won’t be back, and I hope others think twice before going.
The experience at St Hugo was in no way a reflection of any sort of bias- we have a wide and diverse team of staff and always welcome a wide demographic of guests. I understand that in this particular instance, a member of the group came to dine wearing a t-shirt that included an expletive word and highly inappropriate phrase on the front. Our team shared feedback that they felt uncomfortable given the nature of what was on the shirt, and we also had other guests comment that they were uncomfortable, including one group with a young child. Our team continued to host the group for the dining experience as they had already been seated at this point, and delivered an appropriate level of service. However after having been open for almost 9 years, and given this situation, we will be reviewing internally our policy on acceptable dining attire.
Amazing. The chef Simon, walked us through the kitchen garden (sipping champagne) and showed us some of the plants they use (who knew what a Jerusalem artichoke plant or a caper bush looked like!). We then got a prime seat watching the kitchen staff prepare the lunch sitting for about 40 people (so calm, so organised) and got our very special lunch served with some pretty incredible wines. The vegetarian option they prepared for me were so thoughtful and didn’t feel like poor cousins. (Best eggplant I have ever had). It was the highlight of the trip to The Barossa and I really recommend anyone interested in food (and wine) do it if they can. Huge thanks to Simon ( such a clever and lovely guy) and his kitchen team plus Sonia who explained the wine matches for an unforgettable afternoon.
What a wonderful review to receive for our Garden to Table experience! I know Simon will be so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your experience with him, and that the eggplant dish was a winner! Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, we really very much appreciate it.
Wow, Wow, wowsers!!!! We loved this experience. Simon Hicks the head chef, spent time explaining their garden , planting for the restaurant, and history of the winery. His banter and sense of humour kept us entertained for hours. The staff very very professional and amazingly attentive. We watched the chefs at work ( Adrian, Josh and Charlotte) who all showed their skill under the watchful eyes of Simon. Our day at St Hugo sampling the food and wine were the absolute highlight of our visit to the Barossa. Don’t miss out on this wonderful experience ……..Simon made our day so much fun while we indulged in being wined and dined. 10/10!
The Garden to Table experience is such a great opportunity to interact with our Kitchen team as well as learn more about our food philosophy and actually see it in practice in the Kitchen Garden. Simon is a wealth of knowledge and loves sharing it with our guests, a genuine thank you from myself and the team for taking the time to leave your review on your experience with us.
