Op weg naar de Tempel van Poseidon heb je de mogelijkheid om de zuidelijke buitenwijken van Athene te absorberen, zoals Old Faliron, Alimos en Glyfada. Het is een onmiskenbaar feit dat deze gebieden worden beschouwd als de meest opgeschaalde gebieden van Attica. Bovendien krijgt de reiziger de mogelijkheid om de kustlijn van Attica te observeren vol met particuliere en openbare mariniers, winkels en cafés.
Er wordt een korte stop gemaakt voor foto's bij het Vouliagmeni-meer. De lagune is ongeveer 2000 jaar geleden gevormd. Het was ooit een grote grot die instortte na een aardbeving. De contouren van het ingestorte grotdak zijn van een afstand duidelijk te onderscheiden. Het meer heeft vrij unieke omgevingscondities: het wordt voorzien van warm zeewater (28-35ºCelsius) via een ondergronds kanaal dat zich door een netwerk van overstroomde grotten verspreidt, zodat de temperatuur nooit onder de 18 °C daalt (meestal rond de 21-24 °C) , terwijl een zoetwaterbron het zoutgehalte verlaagt tot brakke niveaus (14,5-18 psu). Door de constante warmwatertemperatuur en het rijke gehalte aan waterstofsulfide fungeert het meer sinds het einde van de 19e eeuw als kuuroord.
Varkiza is een pittoresk dorpje aan de zee in het midden van de weg naar Kaap Sounion. Het gebied is erg populair bij Atheners voor korte excursies vanwege de stranden, winkels en clubs.
De tempel van Poseidon is gebouwd op de top van de heuvel, precies op het punt waar de Saronische Zee en de Egeïsche Zee elkaar ontmoeten. De tempel was opgedragen aan God Poseidon, de heer van de zee en het was daar waar alle zeelieden een laatste offer brachten om God Poseidon te sussen voordat ze de veiligheid van de Saronische Golf verlieten. Volgens de Griekse mythologie was de Kaap Sounion het punt vanwaar de Griekse koning Aegeus zichzelf van de klif naar zijn dood wierp, in de verkeerde overtuiging dat zijn zoon was gestorven. Dit oude tragische verhaal omvat een thema dat vandaag de dag nog steeds wordt gebruikt in het vertellen van moderne verhalen.
Op de terugweg naar Athene zal de bezoeker genieten van de Griekse traditionele keuken in een lokale taverne met uitzicht op de zee.

Airport Pickup : Uw chauffeur zal u opwachten bij aankomst op de internationale luchthaven van Athene - "Eleftherios Venizelos", bij de douane-uitgang, met een H.P. Tours tekenen met je naam op. Haven pick-up : Uw chauffeur zal u ontmoeten bij de Piraeus Port cruiseschip terminal, met een H.P. Tours tekenen met je naam op. Merk op dat de haven van Piraeus drie terminals heeft, Terminal A, B en C. Afhankelijk van de terminal waar uw schip aanmeert, wacht uw chauffeur u op bij de bijbehorende uitgang. (bijvoorbeeld als uw schip aanmeert bij Terminal A, wacht uw chauffeur u op bij de uitgang van Terminal A enz.) Als uw schip aanmeert bij Terminal B of Terminal C en de bijbehorende uitgangspoort is gesloten, moet u de shuttlebus nemen om naar Terminal A te komen (3 MIN RIDE), waar uw chauffeur op u wacht.

Our private sunset tour to Poseidon's temple was fantastic. Our driver was on time and the vehicle was so nice. We had a scenic drive, golden hour and sunset at the site, and dinner at a lovely waterside tavern. Definitely one of the best sunsets I have seen.
Sounion such a beautiful place and so nice to have a nice van and wonderful driver to get us out there and even some great secret spots for great photos along the way. topped off with a private dinner at a local restaurant on way back. Excellent time for the family!

Timing the crowd is key. Jimmy adjusted our trip to put us there ahead of the “sunset” bus tours, and it made an enormous difference. We had no line going in and passed a huge line going out.

The drive along the coast was beautiful! We had a delicious dinner of Greek salad, fish, and shrimp. Highlight was sunset and our driver, Panos. He was amazing and so nice. We learned so much about Greece. Wonderful time!

Basically just a car service to Cape Sounion. I booked for 4pm which I guess was too early? So we had to stop for dinner at 5 on the way not on the way back, as advertised. The sunset at the Temple of Poseidon was at 8:24 pm. So we didn’t need to get there until 7:30. Not sure why we weren’t told that. The dinner spot was fine. Great people and the food was good, but not a place I would have chosen on my own. There were other seemingly more interesting places in the area. Our driver was nice, but quiet. We didn’t expect a tour guide, but some of the other reviews mention drivers who were talkative and informative. Overall definitely worth going to Cape Sounion and the temple of Poseidon. That said, this was just hiring a driver to get there. Not sure we needed to spend 500 to do that and then an addition 300+ for dinner at 5pm.
