De Melaka Flavours Food and Culture Tour is een begeleide reis door de meest iconische straten en multiculturele wijken van de stad die op de UNESCO-lijst staan. De tour combineert geschiedenis, architectuur en gastronomie en onthult hoe Melaka's verleden als wereldwijde handelshaven zijn unieke mix van Maleise, Chinese en Peranakan-invloeden heeft gevormd. Het Melaka Straits Cultural Museum biedt een inzichtelijke reis naar de rijke culturele uitwisselingen die de Straat van Melaka vormden, waar handelaren, ontdekkingsreizigers en kolonisten uit heel Azië en daarbuiten elkaar eeuwenlang ontmoetten. Het museum belicht de levendige maritieme geschiedenis van de regio en de mix van Maleise, Chinese, Indiase, Arabische en Europese invloeden die hebben bijgedragen aan het unieke erfgoed van Melaka. Een belangrijke attractie is de Cheng Ho Voyage Map, die de uitgebreide maritieme expedities van de legendarische admiraal tijdens de Ming-dynastie illustreert, die Melaka's vitale rol symboliseert als een wereldwijd handelscentrum en een kruispunt van beschavingen.
Gebouwd in 1781, is een van de oudste hindoeïstische tempels in Maleisië en is gewijd aan Lord Ganesha, een weerspiegeling van Melaka's langdurige multiculturele erfgoed.
Een van de oudste moskeeën van Melaka, gebouwd in 1748, staat bekend om zijn unieke mix van Sumatraanse, Chinese, hindoeïstische en Maleise bouwstijlen.
Gebouwd in 1646, is de oudste functionerende Chinese tempel in Maleisië, bekend om zijn prachtige architectuur en toewijding aan de Drie Doctrinale Systemen van Boeddhisme, Confucianisme en Taoïsme.
Hier proberen we het populaire eetcafé dat bekend staat om het serveren van nostalgische, huiselijke Maleisische gerechten geïnspireerd op traditionele recepten die generaties lang zijn doorgegeven. Bij deze stop zullen we genieten van een voorproefje van lokale favorieten - traditionele toast en een verfrissend dessert om de ervaring compleet te maken.
Heeren Street, ook bekend als Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, is een van Melaka's meest elegante erfgoedstraten, bekleed met prachtig bewaard gebleven Peranakan herenhuizen. Als onderdeel van de wandeltocht maken we hier een culturele stop om meer te leren over het Baba Nyonya-erfgoed – waarbij we de unieke mix van Chinese en Maleise tradities verkennen die de Peranakan-cultuur hebben gevormd, van hun architectuur en levensstijl tot hun rijke gebruiken en vakmanschap.
Geen reis naar Melaka is compleet zonder het proeven van zijn meest iconische gerecht – de Hainese kip rijstballen. In tegenstelling tot de gebruikelijke kippenrijst wordt de geurige rijst hier met de hand gerold tot hapklare balletjes en geserveerd met malse gepocheerde kip, chilisaus en sojadressing. Deze lokale specialiteit is een must-try ervaring die echt Melaka's unieke eetcultuur vertegenwoordigt.
Bij deze stop zullen we genieten van een zoete traktatie geliefd bij de lokale bevolking – traditionele cendol gegarneerd met rijke gula Melaka siroop. Als aanvulling hierop proeven we ook een verscheidenheid aan kleurrijke Nyonya kuih, hapklare Peranakan-delicatessen gemaakt met kokosmelk, pandan en kleefrijst, die een echte smaak van Melaka's erfgoeddesserts bieden. Eindig met een zoete noot.

Mimi was our food and culture tour guide and she was excellent! Mimi was very engaging and knowledgeable, she kept the kids' attention throughout the whole tour. We had a great time exploring Melaka old town and eating our way through all the local delicacies. She brought us to hidden alleyways and beautiful traditional peranakan houses which we would not have known if we had not join the tour. Love the craft activity that we could bring home as souvenir. Highly recommend!
