De geschiedenis van Skopje begint met de nederzettingen van de Thraciërs en de oprichting van het fort van Scupi. De stad maakte deel uit van de Romeinse, Byzanatijnse, Bulgaarse en voor korte tijd, van de Servische landen. De Ottomanen zullen de stad in 1392 veroveren. Ze zullen de naam veranderen in Uskub en de plaats zal veranderen in een unieke stad in zijn soort, die door tal van Ottomanen, Bulgaren en Albanezen thuis zal worden genoemd. In 1912 zal de stad tijdens de Eerste Balkanoorlog worden bevrijd van de Ottomanen en uiteindelijk een deel van het Servische land worden. Tijdens de twee wereldoorlogen zal uiteindelijk aan het Bulgaarse land worden gegeven, voordat het uiteindelijk een deel en een hoofdstad van de Macedonische Federatie werd in de Joegoslavische socialistische republiek. De stad zal op economische en industriële manier snel gaan groeien. Helaas heeft een enorme aardbeving in 1963 een groot deel van de stad verwoest en meer dan 100.000 mensen zonder huis achtergelaten.

Typische straat in de Oude Bazaar De Oude Bazaar is een bazaar in Skopje, gelegen aan de oostelijke oever van de rivier de Vardar, die zich uitstrekt van de stenen brug tot de Bit-Pazar en van het fort van Skopje tot de rivier de Serava. De Oude Bazaar valt voornamelijk binnen de grenzen van de gemeente Čair, maar een deel ervan bevindt zich in de gemeente Centar. Als een van de oudste en grootste marktplaatsen in de Balkan, is het Skopje's centrum voor handel en commercie sinds minstens de 12e eeuw.
De brug wordt beschouwd als een symbool van Skopje en is het belangrijkste element van het wapen van de stad, dat op zijn beurt is opgenomen in de vlag van de stad. De stenen brug verbindt het Macedonië-plein, in het centrum van Skopje, met de oude bazaar.
Een gigantisch 29-meter hoog bronzen beeld van de oude krijgerskoning, Filips van Macedonië, werd dinsdag in het hart van de Macedonische hoofdstad Skopje opgericht te midden van een juichende menigte toeschouwers.

Het Mother Teresa Memorial House is opgedragen aan de humanitaire en Nobelprijswinnaar voor de vrede, Moeder Teresa is te vinden in haar woonplaats Skopje, in Macedonië, waar zij leefde van 1910 tot 1928. Het herdenkingshuis werd gebouwd op de populaire Macedonia Street in de gemeente Centar , op de exacte locatie van de eens Heilige Hart van Jezus Rooms-katholieke kerk, waar Moeder Teresa werd gedoopt. Het ligt net ten oosten van het Ristiḱ-paleis en het Macedonië-plein. In de eerste drie weken werd het gedenkhuis bezocht door 12.000 mensen
Het oude treinstation herbergt nu het Museum van de stad Skopje Museum van de stad Skopje is een culturele instelling gelegen in Skopje, Republiek Macedonië. Opgericht in 1949, is het gevestigd in een voormalig station dat gedeeltelijk verwoest werd tijdens de aardbeving in 1963. Het museum huisvest permanente exposities die de geschiedenis van Skopje vertegenwoordigen, vanaf de eerste geregistreerde nederzettingen rond 3000 voor Christus tot heden.

The driver and the guide can speak fluent English, which is a plus point. The guide is friendly and provided useful history to the places we visited. I enjoyed this tour. Skopje is an old charmed place, Didn't expect it to be so beautiful!
It was a very interesting tour.Skopje is a very beautiful city,full of monuments.Our driver Georgi Ivanov was very informative and accomodating.He was very friendly and make you feel very relaxed.

I took part in a guided tour in Skopje and it was a truly unforgettable experience! The guide was extremely knowledgeable, likeable and passionate, which made the tour engaging from start to finish. We visited the most iconic places of the city, such as Skopje Fortress, Old Bazaar and Stone Bridge, receiving detailed explanations and very interesting historical curiosities. I was also struck by the balance between ancient history and modernity, perfectly illustrated by the guide. The pace of the tour was well calibrated, with just enough time to take pictures and ask questions. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to discover Skopje in an authentic and thorough way!
I was very satisfied with my day trip to Skopje. It was well worth it. Georgi was a good guide and driver, however he should tone down his political views especially against the West, and his inkling of condoning Russia in the invasion of Ukraine.
Had an amazing day exploring the wonderful sights. North Macedonia has so much to offer. It was an absolute hidden gem. Our driver/guide for travelling was so informative and the guide we had in North Macedonia was so passionate about Skopje and her country. I would highly recommend ❤️
The city of Skopje, was alot more than I expected. Full of history, shops, restaurants and bars. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was wrong. Stefan was my driver… what a great guy!

I loved Skopje. What charming and intriguing place. Meeting point for the tour was easy to find. I got there first, and our driver Stefan arrived about 10 minutes before the start time. On the way there, he shared some tips and insights about Skopje. We had 2 restroom stops on the way which was nice to have. The drive was 4 hours each way but it did not bother me at all. The van was comfortable and I slept most of the way. Border crossing was very smooth and Stefan handled it efficiently. Once we arrived in Skopje, a local guide was there waiting for us and took over then. It was a cold rainy day and it was nice of her to take us to a place where we can guy scarfs, umbrellas and gloves etc. before we started the tour. The city has a lot to see, the tour had many stops but felt a bit rushed. She moved on and walked fast between stops , and I couldn’t hear her sometimes because she was talking while walking. But the sound of rain made it difficult to hear her. Before the tour ended, the guide took us to a cafe where credit cards were not accepted. We had to go to a nearest ATM with a poor rate and a high fee to get cash. I suggest taking about $20 worth of cash in Macedonian Denar. If not, always ask if cards are accepted wherever you go, before you order anything. Skopje’s old town was so charming, and felt like a maze. There seemed to be a lot of great food options. Next time I will fly directly into Skopje and stay there for at least a few days! Thank you Stefan and B Travel!
The driver Philip was great and kept us entertained both with history and stories, while driving safely and on time. It takes about 3.5 hours each way without traffic (so 8-9 hours) so without him we'd be really bored and exhausted. We spent 3.5 hours in Skopje. The tour guide there was OK though she had a tendency to talk too quietly and to start talking before the entire group arrived, which, in a loud city like Skopje meant that we didn't hear much of what she said. Skopje is a nice town with a strong Ottoman influence and worth a visit (though honestly not as nice as say Plovdiv or Sofia in my opinion), and I think this tour company is a great way to do that
