De natuurlijke warmwaterbronnen van de lagune bevinden zich in het dorpje Fludir genoemd en liggen in de Golden Circle. Wij houden het natuurlijk en uniek voor onze gasten zodat zij het echte IJslandse gevoel kunnen ervaren. Het zwembad, de natuurlijke omgeving en het stoom dat opstijgt, geven de plaats een magisch gevoel. Het warme water blijft het hele jaar door op 38-40 graden. In het hele gebied zijn er verschillende geothermische plekken en de kleine geiser die elke 5 minuten water spuit: een spektakel voor de gasten die ontspannen in de warmwaterbronnen. In de winter is het noorderlicht vaak te zien in het gebied en wat is een betere manier om kennis te maken met deze lichtshow dan tijdens een moment van ontspanning in het warme water, omgeven door stoom uit de aarde?

Oorspronkelijk gebouwd in 1891, was de ‘Gamla Laugin’ zoals het uiteindelijk bekend werd, het eerste zwembad van IJsland. Decennia daarna werd Gamla Laugin vrijwel verlaten totdat de huidige eigenaar besloot om het in 2005 nieuw leven in te blazen. Tegen die tijd was het zwembad al lang vergeten en gedurende een paar jaar gebruikte hij het als zijn eigen verwarmde privézwembad alleen voor hijzelf en een paar vrienden, die een aantal jaren geheim blijven. Dat is hoe The Secret Lagoon zijn raadselachtige naam kreeg. Een natuurlijke hete bron voedt de lagune met 38-39 ° C water dat vanuit een diep gat in de aarde opborrelt met een snelheid van 10 liter per seconde, constant zichzelf aanvullend zodat er een constante toevoer van vers schoon water in het zwembad is bij elke gegeven tijd. The Secret Lagoon biedt gloednieuwe faciliteiten naast het warmwaterbrongebied in Fludir. Beschikbare faciliteiten: kleedkamers, douches, rustkamers, bar en restaurant. Met de voltooiing van kleedkamers, douchefaciliteiten, buitendek, loopbruggen en een klein café werd The Secret Lagoon in de zomer van 2014 rustig geopend.

We bought the tickets directly at the ticket office at 6:45 PM, with a recommended stay of an hour and a half (they close at 8 PM anyway). Cost: 9520 ISK (about €66, 2 adults and 2 children), you can add towels for the price of 1200 ISK (€8), or bring your own. Wonderful experience at this natural hot spring, which boasts the title of the oldest geothermal pool in Iceland. Very few people, hot showers, lockers with keys attached to a bracelet, hair dryers (with a somewhat cold air flow honestly), a sort of "centrifuge" to dry swimsuits, floating tubes, and mats available for guests. There are 3 pools: the main one at 40°, a smaller one at 38°, and a circular pool at 6°. Before entering the changing rooms, you will be shown an explanatory video, which also reminds you that taking a shower without a swimsuit before entering the water is mandatory.
It really is a 'secret' , we almost missed it. Glad we did find it, wonderful heated pool and cold plunge pool in an isolated and private environment.
Great facilities! The bathing suit spin/dryer is amazing for travelers. Not overly crowded but clearly no longer a secret. If you’re in the area it’s definitely worth a stop.

An uncrowded thermal lagoon in a natural setting. Large water area, cold plunge pool, hot pool with jets and kids wading area. Food and drink available to purchase, nice lounge area and very clean change and shower facilities. Reasonably priced, especially if you get tickets in advance through Viator.
The secret Lagoon is very easy to find, the facilities are lovely, clean, providing body wash and shampoo for the showers. There’s a neat little spinner to dry your bathing suit. The water is lovely not too crowded. It was terrific.
We did the Blue Lagoon last time we were in Iceland and we all agreed that this was a much nicer experience and far more affordable. The lagoon wasn’t crowded…the water was perfect and we felt comfortable staying as long as we liked.
Secret Lagoon is an easy must stop on the Golden Circle route. The facility is clean and uncrowded, and the staff is most helpful. If you are looking for an authentic Icelandic geothermic lagoon experience at an excellent value, especially with a senior discount, than this should be your first choice!
