Emile our instructor and guide was outstanding in every way. This was a truly special experience. I was nervous, but there was no need. Emile and the team are exceptionally organised, professional and highly experienced (Emile is a cave and ice diver ...) and cross-check protocols are in place to ensure gear is correctly fitted and local rangers count snorkelers into the water etc. And in terms of being nervous about being in the water, being cold, having vertigo in the clear clear water etc, again - no need. You can just drift along in the buoyant dry suit and admire the incredible, once in a lifetime glacial watery environment. We had such a great time, so much fun. No surprise the vast number of positive reviews. Very lucky indeed to have had this experience.
Very fun. A little physically challenging. Very very cold face at first, but exhilarating, exciting, unique. Loved it!
Incredible, don’t miss experience for a trip to Iceland. Our guide, Jenny, was patient, informative and funny. She did lots of work to make everyone in our group was set up properly. Great job! While the water is chilly, you won’t regret it because the views are breathtaking.
Cold water snorkeling through the tectonic plates. Super cool experience and crystal clear view through the water. Staff extremely friendly and helpful as well.
Alex was a fantastic guide. Very patient and friendly. Once in a lifetime experience to snorkel between tectonic plates.
From beginning to end, what an amazing experience!! The staff was very helpful and encouraging, despite the cold rainy weather we had to start the morning off. They help get you prepared to enter the water, bundled and secured!! An unforgettable moment and we’d definitely come back to do it again. 10/10!
The main purpose was to snorkel between the tectonic plates and see it all in the VERY clear water. That is what we did but there is more to it. I didn't know what to expect exactly. Swimming in cold water. I got that part. After checking in we stripped to our base layer and you will receive an undersuit. After that you get a dry suit. you get straps around your neck and wrist to prevent water from entering. they get tight and might feel uncomfortable, but ways better than getting wet with cold water. Also get cloves and a head cover. The guide will help you getting dressed and prepared. Walking over takes a couple of minutes. You also get some fins and snorkling gear. You walk into the water. Your hands and face will get wet and takes a couple of minutes to get used to. The fissure is very clear. You will be in the water for about 30-40 minutes. Afterwards you will walk back. Along the way the guide will explain with you see and will take pictures. Afterwars you change back into your own clothes. Makes sure to bring a spare change of clothes as you might get wet. There is also a hot chocolate milk and a snack. Don't forget to explore the rest of the ares as well.
We snorkeled with Isabella, and she was the best guide we could have asked for! I had some trouble with my mask while snorkeling, and she was incredibly patient, reassuring, and helpful the entire time. Her kindness, professionalism, and positive attitude truly stood out, and we’re so grateful to have had her as our guide!
Not nearly as cold as people will tell you. Also, picture package not worth it. Everyone is so bundled up in the equipment, you can't tell who anyone is.
Snorkeling at Silfra was a really unique experience and, as a science teacher, I found it extremely interesting. Alex T. was a helpful and knowledgeable guide and shared some great insights about life in Iceland. Getting suited up to handle the temperatures was uncomfortable at first, but it felt really pleasant to be so cozy when you're in water just a few degrees above freezing!
