Als local heb ik de weg naar Sete Cidades honderden keren gereden en het verbaast me nog steeds. Op het moment dat de caldera zich opent, zie je de grootste lagune van de Azoren, ook wel bekend als de groene en blauwe of tweelingmeren, het dorp daar, het hele tafereel in een slapende vulkaan... niemand in het busje zegt een woord, alleen maar staart en hijgt. Dat moment is de reden waarom ik deze Sete Cidades tour op São Miguel heb gebouwd. Onze West Coast Tour gaat waar de meeste toeristen komen en nooit komen, stop bij vier uitzichtpunten, waaronder Vista do Rei, waar het verlaten hotel, Monte Palace Hotel, boven de groene en blauwe lagunes staat, Boca do Inferno boven op de rand van de vulkaan onder anderen. Daal af naar de caldera voor een lokale Azoreaanse lunch, waar de lokale bevolking naartoe gaat, en een wandeling rond de blauwe lagune erna, om al dat eten soepel naar beneden te laten gaan. Kleine groep, geen haast, je eigen ritme. Ontdek de vele lagunes van Sete Cidades. Bereik hoge uitkijkpunten bovenop vulkanische muren.

Begin met het rijden naar de muur van de caldera via een binnenweg van het eiland, stop bij een uitzichtpunt om zowel de noord- als zuidkustlijnen en de uitgestrekte heuvels en vulkanische formaties langs São Miguel te zien.
Controleer de oude Romeinse stijl aquaducten die werden gebruikt om zoet water te vervoeren tussen de westerse dorpen sinds de XVI eeuw, Ponta Delgada werd ook gevoed door deze infrastructuur tot het begin van de XX eeuw. Controleer op de populaire Negen Ramen Muur en de poort, sommigen zeggen, naar Narnia!
Het Lagoa do Canário ligt in een afgelegen lagune omringd door bomen en kan slechts vanaf enkele toegangspunten worden bekeken. De weelderige vegetatie van Cryptomerias en de hoge luchtvochtigheid in de lucht, maakt het alsof we in een betoverd bos lopen.
Maak een gemakkelijke wandeling door het natuurpark Lagoa do Canario tot aan het uitzichtpunt van Boca do Inferno, waar men de valleien rond de vulkaan Sete Cidades, de Blauwe en Groene lagunes en het dorp Sete Cidades kan aanschouwen. Vanaf een hoogte van ongeveer 700 meter boven zeeniveau is er veel te waarderen. (Een minimum aan fysieke aanleg is vereist vanwege een steile klim naar het uitzichtpunt.)
Bewonder de hele uitgestrektheid van de groene en blauwe lagunes van Sete Cidades vanaf het King's View-uitzichtpunt, leer over de uitgestrektheid van de lagune van Sete Cidades van hoog bovenaf (algemeen bekend als tweelingmeren of blauwe en groene meren, maar in werkelijkheid is het één massief waterlichaam)! Leer meer over het verschil in kleuren, het legendeverhaal dat eromheen draait en bewonder het verlaten luxueuze hotel Monte Palace Hotel.van het verlaten hotel dat in ruïnes ligt en de legende achter de lagunes. We stoppen op een minder drukke stop voordat we het zeer bevolkte uitzichtpunt bereiken.
Daal af in de caldera, terwijl u onderweg de weelderige hortensiastruiken bekijkt, ontdek de lagune van Santiago van bovenaf.
Voor de lunch, verwen uw smaakpapillen met onze regionale stijl eten, heb je opties van vlees, vis en vegetarisch in dit buffet van traditioneel gemaakte lokale gerechten. (Voorgerecht, Hoofdgerecht, Drank, Dessert en Koffie inbegrepen)
We maken een korte wandeling langs het schiereiland dat door de Blue Lagoon staat, een mooi rustig moment dat een authentieke verbinding met het lokale ecosysteem zal stimuleren. Observeer de lokale fauna en seizoensgebonden flora, bewonder de krater van binnenuit. Het zal ook een grote hulp zijn voor onze spijsvertering.
Een korte wandeling rond het dorp Sete Cidades om de regionale typische architectuur en levensstijl te controleren, en de iconische neogotische kerk (een van de twee op het eiland). Een souvenirwinkel/cadeauwinkel is in de buurt.
Bereik de top van een klif op het meest westelijke punt van São Miguel om het uitzicht op Mosteiros en zijn eilandjes te waarderen, leer meer over het verhaal van het vermiste Azoreneiland.
Daal af naar Mosteiros, het meest westelijke dorp van São Miguel, om over het strand te wandelen met een uniek perspectief op de eilandjes. Bewonder ook de uitgestrekte basaltkust waar natuurlijke poelen gevormd door lavastromen te vinden zijn. (De bodem van de zee op dit strand is rotsachtig overvloedig, het betreden van het water gaat gepaard met riskant manoeuvreren, raden we niet aan om hier te baden.)
Mosteiros is een van de meest ongewone zwemplekken op het eiland. Bewonder een uitgestrekte prachtige kustlijn van basaltgesteente, lavastromen vormden dit gebied honderden jaren geleden, met de deiningen van de Atlantische Oceaan, verschillende gaten pop waar men kan gaan om zichzelf te verfrissen. Uw Gids weet welke zwembaden toegankelijk zijn. Gratis toegang natuurlijke zwembaden zijn hier ook te vinden, open naar de oceaan of meer afgesloten, waar de lokale bevolking die geen zandliefhebbers zijn komen om te genieten van hun oceaanbaden op een probleemloze manier. Pas op voor de rotsachtige oppervlakken! (Een snelle duik is toegestaan zolang u droog naar het voertuig kunt terugkeren. Wij bieden geen handdoeken of verandering van kleding). De zwembaden van "Mosteiros" maken geen deel uit van de thermale oceaanbaden van "Ferraria". Vanwege de afhankelijkheid van warm water van laag water en veranderende getijden verschillende uren, kunnen we die ervaring niet verzekeren.

Wacht bij de ingang van uw accommodatie op het door ons aangegeven tijdstip wanneer we contact opnemen om de laatste details van uw boeking te bevestigen (15 minuten is onze maximale wachttijd, nadat u als no-show wordt beschouwd). We arriveren in een grijs busje met ons logo op de zijkanten. Houd er rekening mee dat er aan het einde van deze tour een toeslag van 10€ in rekening wordt gebracht voor het ophalen bij Ribeira Grande, voor elke boeking niet per persoon. Very beautiful excursion with varied landscapes. Our guide IVO accompanied us and gave us all the necessary information during the excursion while also leaving us moments to share on our own. He shared his knowledge of botany with us. He is very respectful of the environment and very attentive. He had brought us a typical cake and a nice cold bottle of water that we enjoyed ☺️. The tour guide was very informative and knew much about the area including the science of the rock formations as well as the botanical aspects of azores. I would definitely go on this tour so you can see all the sights of the azores and gain knowledge of the areas. The lunch was good and traditional to azores came with red wine and desert at end. My wife and I had a great time. The tour guide even gave us restaurants recommendations for when we were in punta delgada which was very helpful.

Ivo was an excellent guide with a wealth of knowledge as he is from the Azores. Any question was answered with passion that helped appreciate the island more. Throughout the Western tour, he safely drove us to each destination, took the best pictures at vantage points, and advocated for our group especially during the lunch buffet which had a lot of options. The dessert was delicious that varies from day to day. We had the flan and rice pudding. For those worried about bathroom use, public bathrooms were available throughout. The van promptly picked us up/dropped off from Hotel Verde Mar in Ribeira Grande. I highly recommend this tour because the locations can be very busy and made the vacation less stressful. We had our own car, but it made the beautiful views of the Azores more enjoyable. You get a chance to explore each area from 15-45 min. Feel free to pack for the beach/pools. I did a quick dip into the pools and just walked around the beach. We would try other tours if our time allowed. The fees are worth the experience. Definitely book with Wildscape Azores Tours!

This was our second tour with Ivo! Ivo was kind enough to reacheduke this tour because of the aeather conditions, to make sure that we we have the best experience! He shared a lot of information about the flora and the fauna of the osland, as well as history and other interesting facts! The viewpoints he took us to were great!
