We attended the Orangery concert on June 21st, 8:30pm. The musicians were good. The choice of pieces was too much standard fare -- they should throw in some less overplayed stuff! More importantly it was very very hot that night and at first they refused to open windows. When we asked, two staff persons refused and insisted it was hotter outside. That was so on the ground but this is up a level and the windows by the orchestra were open and the occasional breeze was clearly helping in that part if the room. They finally opened some more. There was no water fountain anywhere, restroom sinks were far away, and water bottles were over-priced. Most disappointing is we paid about 95 Euros each for section A seats and they wanted to charge for a paper program, except for the "VIP" section where all were using their programs as fans given it was so hot. I'm sorry but charging extra for a paper program (regardless of the need to use it as a fan) is really seriously bad form, for any of the price tiers. Change that policy! Went to two smaller concerts (in Salzburg, not Vienna) that were far superior.
We purchased the VIP ticket and we fittingly enjoyed a refreshing mimosa in the Orangerie before the concert! The orchestra was fun and engaging with the conductor leading audience participation for the final Walz numbers! The soprano and baritone were also stunningly talented - they made the experience extra special :)
Concert was disappointing to the highest degree. Mediocre orchestra, especially in the first part featuring Mozart. The conductor even had the audacity to say that the important part was Strauss, implying that Mozart was ultimately just a stranger in Vienna..... The lyric singer completely lacked power, and the female singer made horrible grimaces on the verge of apoplexy to hit a few notes. We heard performances of much better quality at the dinner concert we attended in Salzburg. Fortunately, the second part dedicated to Strauss was executed a bit better.
We went to a Mozart, Strauss concert. Outstanding
Beautiful venue, beautiful concert. The only problem- the venue was very hot on a warm summer night with little ventilation. This activity is probably best enjoyed in the cooler months.
It was simply beautiful Great orchestra, funny conductor, fantastic voices A wonderful evening with very dear friends.
Beautiful concert location, let down by average music and circus atmosphere.
Beautiful performance in the large hall of mirrors of the Schonbrunn Palace. I missed a program with the different songs that would be performed. For the rest...a puke performance
There are two options available for this tour so it can be confusing. The VIP pass allows each person a drink from the bar and a program. The program is 10 Euros by itself so if you think you want it and the drinks, buy the upgraded VIP pass allows each. The day we were there, it was 90 degrees outside with high humidity. The orangery was not well air conditioned. Also, we thought the program was going to be all classical music but it did have some opera numbers sung in German, which we don’t speak. Even so, the performers made it fun and engaging.
First time seeing a concert like this one and it was stunning ! Really worth it !
